Subject: Mobile hotspot questions

Starting Oct 1 I will be put in the on-call rotation at work. I need to have network access at all times, and I don't plan on missing my kid's sporting events to sit at home in the event that something might break at work.

I'm looking at mobile hotspots. Right now I'm leaning towards the Virgin Mobile Ovation MC760 USB stick. My husband thinks I can use my iPhone as a hotspot, I have Sprint service.

Does anyone have any knowledge/experience with hotspots?

Your phone can by a wifi hotspot.  It takes a different contract with Verizon and a small setup on the iPhone.  Not sure with any other service provider.

I believe, with AT&T, you need to have a 5GB data plan - which requires a "business contract".  Which aren't hard to get.  I'm in the dark about Sprint though.

This is what I do. Works well under most circumstances. The only time it doesn't is when your laptop or device looks for a stronger wireless and keeps trying to connect to it (such as a pay wireless you don't want to use) or while in motion and you keep switching towers.

It costs $20/month with 2GB of data, so it's good for sporadic use, but not youtube and such.
