The thing is Verlander possibly more so than any other pitcher gets the benefit of a lot of calls that are off the plate. Go back and have a look at his previous game against the Yankees for a good example. last night he wasn't getting those calls and he becomes just another guy with a 95 mph fastball. OK maybe a little better than that but he still becomes a lot more hittable...
I agree with this 100%. Verlander is a heck of a pitcher, and because of that he typically gets a big strike zone. I thought the guy behind the plate last night was beyond exceptional. A very tight and correct strike zone on both sides all night. After the Cards vs Giants series, I was seriously questioning the eye sight of the umps. Last night was a clinic to other umps out there on what the strike zone is.
Verlander was also missing up a lot, and Pablo just killed it. Not really mistakes by Verlander. Good think SF didn't listen to EVERYONE who said not to show up because JV was going to obliterate them.
