Anyone doing any mudruns in 2013?  I like the look of this theme based one.

Looks pretty intense!

I'm actually signed up for more mud runs than tris! I have heard others mention the one you have above--all favorably.

Myself, I am planning on doing a few Spartan Races (all 3 of their distances), the Rugged Maniac, Survivor mudrun, Down and Dirty mud run, and then a local one, Tough and Dirty. If I was able to get down to San Diego, I would also do the Urban Warrior Dash---no mud, just obstacles.

These things are more addictive than triathlons!

I love running on trails. But to purposefully go out with hundreds (or thousands) of my new-best-friends-I-just-met on trails that are completely destroyed BEFORE the event, just for the honor of being ankle (or knee) deep in slop just isn't for me. Lisa and I did the Warrior Dash in 2011. Joke of an event, in my book. In no way was it a race, let alone a "dash". And I found none of the obstacles a challenge. I guess they had to accommodate the "common-man" 300-pounder that showed up for the beer...

I did Warrior Dash this past summer with all of my siblings.  I found it to be the same - not much of a challenge, and definitely not a race... and it was the most fun I've had at an event in a long, long time.

I don't think that I'll do one this year, but the siblings are trying to talk me into a Tough Mudder, anyway.  I keep trying to one-up it and suggest a Spartan Beast

If you want to "race" it, try to find an event that allows you to seed yourself for start times.  I've done a run for the past two years, and our team was in the first five to start in the morning both years.  Huge two-day event.  We're a bit slower than we advertised, but we didn't have any crowds.  I was running with people faster than me and I was pegged the entire race.  The teams that won this event were very fast and very much racing.

Thanks for all the input!  I think you are right, with a crowd that big, you really have to be one of the first people out of the gate to actually 'race' a mudrun.  I am looking at being part of a team and just enjoying the experience and the frosty post race beverage.  Price wise, it's considerably cheaper than most Olympic distance tri's though and I'm sure it will be a lot of fun.  I'm definately throwing at least one into the mix this year and really like the theme of the 7SAR, as I have always liked the mountains.  I'm curious how they will represent Kilimanjaro, since I climbed it back in 2010.

Do any of you do any specific training for your races?  I'm planning on doing some crossfit in addition to my endurance training to build more upper body strength.
