Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30 and drove the hour it takes to get to the race.
Event warmup:

Got transition set up and hit the 1 bathroom to drop the kids off. Did some light jogging and took a gu about 15 minutes before start.
Swim
  • 00m
  • 150 yards
  • / 100 yards
Comments:

No idea how I did compared to others. I passed 3 or 4 guys in the pool and felt as strong as you can only swimming 150 yards.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Ran into transition and saw I had some work to do. Being a smaller race the transition was super busy when I came in off the run. Grabbed my helmet, glasses, shoes and bike and got out.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing

Comments:

Smoked the bike. Running isn't my strength so I was passing a lot of people. I had just finished a very intense bike focus for the summer and it really took by bike to another level. I was constantly passing people on the course. I would catch someone and look ahead for the next.I pushed hard up the main hill on the way out and that is where I overtook a large portion of the other competitors.
What would you do differently?:

Use my Tri bike next year.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 23m 38s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

I stink at running. I took off and was surrounded by people the whole time. I pushed it hard in the first mile and held onto the pace as long as I could. Pretty flat course on dirt and pavement.
What would you do differently?:

Train more for the run. Lose a few lb's.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked over and grabbed some water and oranges and waited for my wife who also finished 2nd in her age group.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Run Training. More running but I was finishing up a Bike Focus for the summer.

Event comments:

I like this race because it's small and low key. A good way to get the juices flowing and have fun. Not exactly a knock your socks off event but I enjoyed it and will be back next year.
