Total Time = 2h 36m 42s
Overall Rank = 58/232
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 12/25
Pre-race routine:

I had a cup of coffee and a lemon larabar before I left the house. On the way to the race I had 16oz of Generation UCAN.
Event warmup:

I swam for a good 10 minutes to warm up. The water was cold even with the wetsuit.
Swim
  • 25m 3s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 40s / 100 meters
Comments:

The water was really cold and it took some time to get my breathing under control. I was alone most of the swim and had no problem after the first two hundred meters. The wetsuit was nice because it kept me warm but since it is a surfing wetsuit it is not really made for swimming.
What would you do differently?:

I will have to buy a new wetsuit specific to triathlon at some point. Practice sighting a little more.
Transition 1
  • 02m 55s
Comments:

I had no problem getting the wetsuit off and part of the long transition time is the run from the water to transition. The transition area had quite a few rocks and little stones that stuck to your feet and hurt.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transition seems to be my common answer here.
Bike
  • 1h 13m 36s
  • 24.1 miles
  • 19.65 mile/hr
Comments:

The first half of the bike was really windy but going back provided some great tailwind and decent speeds.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I don't have a T2 time. Not sure what happened but it was either lumped in the run or the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Went pretty smooth!
Run
  • 55m 7s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

The run went pretty smooth but I got really tired around mile 4 and 5. I had some juice left and picked up the pace in the last mile.

Open 10k PR.
Post race
Warm down:

Sitting down ... :-)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My allergies were pretty rough the day before and I helped a friend move out of his house.

Event comments:

Met BT User BigDLobo at the finish line. Very nice!

Well done Michael!  Surprised that your AG placement wasn't higher -- must have been some real speed demons out there...

Congrats!  I raced it as well and that water was very cold.  The first few hundred meters were very rough for me as well, until I could get my body working the way I wanted it to. My feet started to thaw out only about 2 miles into the run.
