Comments:

I was in the first wave - we could do a tread start if so desired, or stand on the ramp. I chose to get in to be front and center. It was also cold, so getting in was a better option.
We tread for a while - I'd say a good 5-7 mins. It was long enough to hear the pre-race blessing and Star-Spangled-Banner. I was getting tired!
I had a great start, but it didn't come without issues!
The waves were fairly large and the water was choppy. I lost my breath a couple times and had to flip to backstroke to catch my breath. I was in a great position from the get-go, holding on to second around the first buoy. Then I inhaled a nice amount of water and lost my head-to-head partner just at the first turn.
I thought I came in 3rd, but it shows second, so I'll take it! Considering the choppy water, the swim felt great.
What would you do differently?:

More open water swim practice.
Transition 1
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

This is a tough transition for me. I really need to work on getting my socks and shoes on quickly. Otherwise, getting gear on is great. I'd like to work on a running mount, and MUST get in clips.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting socks and shoes on with wet feet. Practice running mount.
Bike
  • 26m 14s
  • 8 miles
  • 18.30 mile/hr
Comments:

My bike was great! I really felt comfortable and in control. For once I felt I was able to hold my pace the entire course.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing other than more riding!
Transition 2
  • 48m 7s
Comments:

Not much can be said here. I didn't put my run belt on for the bike, so that took additional time, and I fumbled racking my bike.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 24m 7s
  • 2 miles
  • 12m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

This was my best race run yet, but still terrible. Running always has and always will be the worst for me.
Saying that, I felt great. It took me a minute or two to get my legs back after the bike, then I was ready to go. I ran/walked the whole way, leaving the walking to a minimum, only to catch my breath.
What would you do differently?:

Just run. I HAVE to run more to build my stamina and get stronger. Period.

Event comments:

I love TriGirl!! This will be the one race I will do every year. Can't say enough about the race itself, Jana and Carrie (RD's) and the volunteers. Just great.

Great job!!!!  Love that you chose to get in the front of the pack in the H20.

PS.  I think you may have lengthened your T2 time just a little.  I know you said you were a bit slow, but 48'?  I don't think so. Wink

Well done Karla!  Those swim and bike times are fantastic.  Running will come with time, unfortunately that one you just have to stick with it.

A tip for getting socks on wet feet - I roll my socks off and then fill them with talc.  It takes me about 2 seconds total to get them back on in T1.

Nice race.

If I ever saw 2/xx coming out of the water I could die a happy man.

With the race belt: I usually loop it through the back of my run hat and just grab them both and go. You can put those two things on while running and that will save you time in T2.

Again, well done.
