Subject: Stress Fracture / Foot - How long in Boot?

How long did you wear a boot? 

I was told I don't need to wear the boot anymore after one month.  Pretty much only wore it for a week since it took a month to figure out what the problem was.  I should've asked doc while I was there if I wore it would it speed up the healing process at all.

I wasn't until I was able to get a MRI could they figure out for certain what the problem was.  Started out with excruciating pain if I put weight on it and pretty much hurt any time I moved.  After about a week it just felt like my foot was broken but x-rays didn't show anything. Came on pretty suddenly with no warning signs I noticed.

Is there anything that I can do to lessen the chances of stress fractures. I have had no luck with the doctors I have seen. Some have advised orthotics, some say there is nothing that can be done.
