I completed my second tri yesterday at the
PT Solutions Lake Allatoona Sprint Tri in Atlanta. Sprint distances were, 500M swim, 16 mile bike, 5K run. I had a better idea of what I was doing this time around as opposed to my first one last month.
Swim - 11:01
(9/40 in div
)
T1 - 1:21
Bike - 54:21
(34/40 in div
)
T2 - 1:41
Run - 25:33
(14/40 div
)
Overall - 1:33:54
I was 25/40 in the M35-39 AG
I was 188/453 among all racers
I was faster across the board compared to my first tri, but not by leaps & bounds. I had a slightly faster pace in the swim, a much faster pace on the bike
(still on a MTB & there was one hill that damn near killed me!
), and my 5K time was more in-line with my actual run time and I wasn't feeling quite as fatigued coming off the bike as I did in my first race.
Overall, I'm pleased with my second ever race & I clearly recognize that my biggest weakness is my bike. I'm not saying that investing in a road or TT bike will suddenly put me in the top 10 in my division
(see my note below about the AWA
), but considering that I am able to hold my own in the swim & run, it's not that far fetched.
BTW...it was funny to see my MTB in transition
(see pics
) next to all the high end bikes. One bike I noticed in particular was the all blacked out Trek Speed Concept with 808 Zipps & every known accessory & storage compartment for a long race that was racked two bikes over from me. What caught my eye was the AWA sticker on the bike. I looked at the results & the guy finished 16/40 in my division with a 46:37 bike time. I assumed the guy would be on the overall podium
(or at least AG podium
), but I guess he was just doing a good job at looking the part.
