Subject: How accurate are the nutrition facts used here??

I just started entering my nutrition.

I'm wondering how accurate the values are that are used.. does one egg really have 24 grams of fat?? According to the values used, my breakfast that I just ate was 1200 calories!!  Am I really eating that much?  Does two eggs really give me 100% of my daily protein needed??  Looks like I can skip the protein shakes..

Rather than using the pre-defined food templates, I'd rather just enter my own values in the custom foods section.. does anyone know of a good resource that has average kcal/fat/carb/protein breakdowns for most foods?

About the nutrition dbase: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=624

You did enter '2 cups' of eggs today...that is a lot.  Make sure the size selection matches your input.  Choose the '2 large eggs' option and see if that is a lot better.

A note, when you initially 'add' the food, it adds the defualt selection, you have to change the servings and quantity.

changing the input from cups to just eggs did help quite a bit.  However I'm still not totally convinced on the pre-defined values...

for instance:

  • 1 large egg, raw: 4.5g fat
  • 1 large egg, hardboiled: 5.3g fat

Am I missing something - I didn't think hardboiling an egg would increase its fat content by 18%!

I guess my question is - for those of you who enter your nutrition regularly, do you use the predefined values that come from the USDA database or do you enter your own custom foods?

I look at the Nutrition Blog as a great tool to help gauge my intake but not take as a hard and fast measure. Therefore, I have not done a detailed comparison but my initial take was that it appeared to match up well to the numbers on this site:

Also, I have also found defining custom food useful.
