Hi all! Love the site and forums. Been on various car forums for the better part of 15 years now (since I got my permit at 15) and decided to branch out a bit. Anyway, the wife and I are pretty new to triathlons - we did a half IM and an Olympic last year. It all started because we're both a couple of "has-been" high school athletes, and have been looking for ways to stay in shape. We did a 5k a couple years ago and loved the feeling of accomplishment as we crossed the finish line (in 44 minutes!). We mostly do it to stay in shape and the feel good feeling post-train/race. Our 5k time has dropped considerably, but we're still not competitive - we do it to compete against ourselves anyway. My conditioning is a bit better than hers, but I'm still pretty slow. If we keep at it I'm hoping we can get to a fairly competitive point - maybe about mid-way through our age group instead of at the bottom. We are hoping to do a full Ironman in a year or two, but then just stick with the Olympic and sprint distances after that. Who knows though. Welp, see you around!

Hello and welcome!
Good luck with your trainings! Are you planning any 5K runs in Chicago in near future?

Nah, no 5ks really. We try to stick with triathlons. Right now we're doing the Muncie half-IM 7/11, one in Dowagiac, MI on 7/18, and a sprint in Chicago on 9/19. That's probably all we'll do this year. Maybe a local 5k somewhere near us, but I doubt it - running is her least favorite.

Now that I am preparing for my first triathlon, I feel less "love" for running. Well, running is a great sport, but wayyy to much room for injuries. Plus - three sports is more fun.
I hope you both enjoy your triathlons! I have one in Glenview in July, and Chicago one in August.
