Morning all.

I want to get a bento box for a half ironman, but my bike, a giant propel advanced, has the brake and front mech cables entering the top tube about an inch back from the headset, which means the bento box won't fit properly. (stock picture below)

Has anyone else got a bike with similar cable routing and were you able to get a box to fit? Or any other solution fror bike-mounted nutrition?

Incidentally, I'm aware that I can put things in my pockets, but on a tri-suit I'm a bit limited for pocket space and it's quite warm here for wearing a jersey during the bike leg.

Many thanks in advance,
Phil

Hi Phil. I've seen people use the regular Velcro bags and just extend them around the cables to the stem, just want to make sure there's enough room so as to not restrict the cable movement.

If you're using gel packs, I've seen people tape the top of the pack to the top tube with electric tape which makes it easy to open with one hand. I've attached a few links for reference. The second link is to another thread on taping the gu packs to the bike.

Hope this helps!

You could try mounting your bento box on the seat post and top tube. Do not try this if you're a member of the yellow socks brigade.

This plan is an advanced plan in terms of volume and intensity and appropriate for someone who is looking to go under 5:00 and as fast as 4:30. There isn’t a lot of fluff in the plan.
