Champion 10157 Alabama | Subject: Boycott So some 60 democrats are boycotting the inauguration. I can't help but think dems are doing themselves a disservice with this boycott. Everything I've read - by conservative and liberals alike - say they are behaving like petulant children. But it reminds me of the Occupy Wall Street people. What do you think you will accomplish? Do you think you are winning votes? Are you the senator or representative of just the liberal left in your district or do you represent all the people in your district? If so, you are spitting in the face of a lot of people in your district. SMH I'm just looking forward to this being over and for the executive orders to start flying!! |

You ever see a Mom in the mall refusing to acknowledge a child trailing behind her that is throwing an absolute shitte fit temper tantrum? Then you also see the Mom that is coddling the child while it throws the shitte fit tantrum. This is a reflection on their upbringing IMO. I've got to believe that their constituents feel this is an appropriate action as well. Again, a reflection on their upbringing. Representation of all the people in ones district or state? These elected officials do not care one iota about the constituents in their district that did not vote for them and they never will. Again, this is part of why the democrats took a beat down this cycle. Yet, they double down on behavior that continues to fail them. Isn't that the definition of insanity, as per Al Einstein? |

I think MDG is right, they don't give a rats ash about the non liberals in their district. They have written them off and a totally playing to their base. I think though the risk losing moderates and independents who might have voted for them who see their boycott as childish and partisan...with not real purpose except to be partisan. Interesting that only 60 or so are boycotting....puts the rest of them in an awkward position. |

Though I hate the idea that people will work against him just because its him. Like republicans did with Obama. |

When (if) the economy takes off and people start seeing jobs - especially manufacturing jobs - the mid terms and the next election is in the bag and socialism will have failed. I think the America First message is one that resonates with almost all Americans....including all but the alt-left liberals. The media keep trying to put a negative spin on America First with their anti-globalization and isolationism labels. The one-world-order folks feel it slipping away. But there are a lot of democrats that would like to see a world without borders. They are few....but hijacked the democrat party. |

Subject: RE: Boycott The boycott is just a symptom of non-competitive districts. I only took the time to look into the first 5 listed in one of the USAToday articles, but I’m guessing most of the Democratic boycotters are in similar situations. In their general election races, they won 98.4%, 98.6%, 76.9%, 73.9%, and 90.8% of the vote. Boycotting the inauguration is just an opportunity to bolster their liberal bona fides and guard against getting primaried next election cycle. As of this morning, I don't think a single Senator had announced a boycott which is probably because they need to win votes over a whole state rather than just a single district. The boycott is a publicity stunt just like all the votes Republicans took in the House to repeal the ACA the last few years. They knew they didn’t have a chance to get a repeal by Obama, but it allowed them to get all those votes on their records to strengthen their conservative credentials for any potential primary battle. When the general election is a walk-over & the real fight is in the primary, you end up with representatives who run toward the far left or far right rather than toward the moderates and independents. Unfortunately, the number of non-competitive districts has been steadily rising on both sides of the aisle which has led to an increase in this sort of partisan BS. It’s the creation of more of these low-quality, highly partisan seats (on both sides of the aisle) that is the real problem with gerrymandering. |

RE the ACA votes.....that was so republicans could fulfill their promise to constituents to vot to repeal ACA. But yes, politics. |
