Swim
Comments: Solid swim, maybe a little slower than expected. Actually passed one or two people and swam the final length in tandem with another competitor. I didn't know at the time that it was the last length - thought we still had one more to go - so I was surprised to see a guy there exhorting us to exit the pool. I didn't bother to wade to the ladder, just jumped out where I was. Actually saw a lot of people walking this swim; the pool was shallow for its entire length so a lot of folks took advantage of that, something you cake do in an open water swim. What would you do differently?: Nothing; I swam consistently without breaking stride for each length. Transition 1
Comments: Easy transition so not sure why it took so long. Maybe a little difficulty getting shoes on but nothing else. Plus I was close to the bike exit. What would you do differently?: I need to think these through, maybe practice and walk them through. Bike
Comments: Had hoped for a better bike than this on the new ride. I do think I was more comfortable and able to deliver this effort easier than I've previously been able to do but the data don't necessarily reflect that. There was a kid out there, maybe nine, riding a little road bike unbelievably fast. I actually struggled to catch this kid and get around him, and he passed me at the end while I tried to be courteous to girl who, turns out, still had her second loop to ride...I'd thought she was coming in and I didn't think it'd be proper to blow around her as we got to transition so I eased up. Only to watch as she kept riding and this little kid and another racer blew past ME just as we were all coming into transition. What would you do differently?: Just gotta keep riding, keep pushing. Transition 2
Comments: Managed to get through T2 fairly quickly. What would you do differently?: Nothing; good with this. Run
Comments: Good run for me, quite pleased. Walked briefly through one water stop and that was it. Did my 4 on, 1 off game after the first 16/17 minutes. What would you do differently?: Nothing; pleased with this. Post race
Warm down: Just a bit of walking around, sucked down a bottle of water. What limited your ability to perform faster: I've been pleased with my performances this year and where I'm falling in the overall pack; doing much better than in previous years. Don't think it's necessary me, though, as much as it is the courses being easier and maybe the competition isn't as strong. Guess we'll see when I do a couple of events back East. But for now, the bike seems to be what's slowing me down. It's still my best leg but I was definitely hoping to be better at it. I don't feel a ton of improvement is available on the swim or run. Event comments: Rated this a 4 because of the start delay - which I don't think was their fault - and the results not breaking out individual leg rankings or the ability to sort. Otherwise, nicely run event and a great venue to do it...TSW's favorite so far. Last updated: 2017-05-20 12:00 AM

Up a little after four, ate my breakfast of cinnamon toast and a DDCP, aired up the tires on the bike and put it on the car.
Start was delayed by about 20-30 minutes...race officials said they were waiting for local authorities to give them the go ahead. So the benefits of a warm-up would have expired long before I jumped into the pool. Mostly, we all just mingled around waiting for our turn.
