Transition 1
Comments: No swim gear to transition so it was a quick shoe change and helmet for hat. What would you do differently?: Nothing pretty smooth. Bike
Comments: Came out of transition and got comfortable. Immediately realized headed down wind. Decided to just go with it, didn't feel like I was pushing to hard but felt in on the headwind sections. Around mile 38 i got a flat tire, took my time and got it changed. Pumped tire up to about 90psi, i think this came back to bite me later. I just kept looking at my odometer, 16m to go, 12m to go, etc worried that it might go flat again. Then I stopped looking at it and bam i rolled over a large rock and pop goes the tire again. I'm at mile 54 i just slowed the pace down and road it in to the finish. I know I lost 9-10min on the first tire, then 2-3 on the second due to loss of speed. What would you do differently?: Need to stop being so cheap and just buy new tires. May need a new rim now. We will see when i take it apart. Also, bike computer cadence must have been bumped out of place as I had checked to make sure all sensors were working the night before. Transition 2
Comments: Just walked through transition. Went to wrong rack and to double back. Just wasn't paying attention. What would you do differently?: Pay more attention i guess. Run
Comments: It was blazing sun by the time I was running. This season I'm working on walk/run intervals to try and run longer into the race and it seemed to work. I did come out running way to fast the first 4/5 run segments. Need to pace those better. By mile 10 I was toast and just ran little segments as I could. I carried my water and was drinking like a fish. First time I've ever stopped to use porta potty. Hard to believe in that heat that I was able to take in that much liquid. What would you do differently?: Better pacing to start. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed my bike, chatted with a friend for a few minutes and headed home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Flat tires and the heat. Even without the time loss for the flat tires I was a minute slower than my PR, so subtract 12min and that's a really nice PR for the bike. The run was within 1-2 minutes of last couple half runs. Take away that extra starting run and maybe my legs would have lasted longer. Who knows. Event comments: Events on time i said yes but there as a short delay due to the swim cancellation. But the speed at which the organizer was able to switch to a run was very well executed. Last updated: 2017-07-05 12:00 AM

Got up at normal weekday time 4:30. It was a 2hr drive to the race. Ate half a bagel on drive. Packet pickup when I got there. Race is smaller event, which is great no waiting in lines to get bib or timing chips. Couple trips back and forth from car to transition and restroom.
Went back to car to stay out of the wind. Waited for the pre-start meeting. Put wet suit on at car. Started to walk towards pre-race meeting and they just cancelled swim due to high winds and rough water. Swim is replaced by 1m run. I really didn't need another mile run, but did need open water practice swim. Ugh.
