I am often left shaking my head when I turn on MSNBC and the host will have two talking heads discussing something - one on the left and one on the far left! Or CNN will have a panel of 5 people and everyone of them are liberals or, at best RINOs. Fox is biased too. They used to have Hannity and Combs but when Combs left they didn't replace him and I think that was a mistake! The 5 used to have Bob Becktle but they kept having to fire the man for drugs and alcohol. They will often use Juan as their token liberal but what is up with 4 to 1? CNN used to have Crossfire and I enjoyed that but the dropped that a while back. Tucker Carlson does a good job of having most of his guests being far left guys and Trucker provides the view from the right and his guests present the view from the left.

Seems to be if these cable news wants to restore some of their lost credibility, they should have equal numbers of liberals and conservative on their shows.

I think the best at this is Meet the Press. Todd will have 4 guests on his panel, usually a true liberal, a center-lefty, a center-righty, and a true conservative. You really won't find a fringe bomb thrower like you will on several other shows, the discussion stays within reasonable bounds.

The thing to remember is that the cable news outlets (Fox, MSNBC, and CNN) have their constituencies and are largely playing to them because this is where their bread is buttered. They are businesses and this is reasonable to expect. With that said, relying on cable news, or TV for that matter, for your information is not a good idea. Pick up a newspaper, read a magazine, or better yet read a book - get educated on events - make your own opinion. (I know it's hard, thinking sucks...)

It's not news, it's entertainment. To quote the great anchorman Ron Burgandy "Why do we have to tell the people what they need to hear? Why can't we tell them what they want to hear?"

BT/COJ Politics is a good place to get news....or at least to read different slants and interpretations of what is being discussed and reported in the MSM. We could use a few more liberals here.....it's not as much fun 'debating' with people I mostly agree with then with people whose views I am diametrically opposed to. You and Dave Miller and Renee are pretty reliable libs.

That is so true...but you won't get any of them to actually admit that. I don't watch Tucker Carlson to get news, I watch him for entertainment. He is a very good debater and I love watching him take apart some of his liberal guests with logic and common sense.

If you are reporting the news you don't need talking heads and you don't need commentary. Unfortunately all of journalism is a business and journalism is a LIBERAL art and tends to attract liberals.

Fortunately we live in the age of information with anything you want to know only a few keystrokes away. Unfortunately, anyone can write/post anything they want on the internet. I could prove or disprove pretty much anything by citing "facts" on the internet.

Agree Bob, it really is just an entertainment industry to make money.  Real journalism and objectivity are long gone.  Seems like most of the guests have their own financial agendas such as pushing their latest book or product.

I really don't consider myself a liberal. I am a pro-choice gun owner, and a registered independent that caucuses with the Democrats. I am not, however, unafraid to think for myself.

and more importantly you're respectful towards others when you have the wrong opinion and I have the right one.  ;-)

I'm truly a libertarian at heart myself (which may surprise you).  I have many very conservative values, but I don't want to impose them on others through legislation.
I'm also extremely liberal when it comes to civil rights, due process, and death penalty and those I generally do try to oppose on people through legislative change.  I've testified at our state legislature multiple times on various civil rights and death penalty hearings.

I would consider myself a social libertarian, I don't want anyone (gov't, religion, the boy scouts of america) telling me what I can't and cannot do, I reserve that right for all americans. (Please don't tell my wife I said this).

We all know where I stand on economics, I would consider myself a Kaynesian realist. I do believe that the government can have a positive role in making peoples lives better, but I also realize there are realistic limits to this and lines can be overstepped. It is a balancing act - very, very little in this world is black and white in nature.

and as for this "and more importantly you're respectful towards others when you have the wrong opinion and I have the right one. ;-)" .
Please note that I haven't responded to that mess you put on another thread about Hilary/Obama being responsible for the collusion, I leave that bit of Fox n' Friends logic for others to bash.

LOL

I’ve always wondered where people get their value system. Presumably parents and life experiences?

I do find it interesting that in general people tend towards more conservative values as they get older....at least according to demographics.

Mine's mostly from life experience.  I grew up in a family that didn't vote at all, but generally supported Democratic "give me free stuff" principles.
Living in that world I saw how much abuse and scamming was done and it taught me at a very early age that much of the entitlements actually harmed people far more than they helped.  I voted for Bill Clinton the first Presidential election because he was "cool".  I couldn't have told you one thing he stood for, but he played sax and was cool so that's all that mattered to me.
Then, seeing first hand what Clinton's policies of weakness and budget cuts did to the military changed my perspective bigly.  Our rules of engagement in the gulf were literally to not shoot back until we've taken a direct hit first.  He was such a wus that our lives were at risk and we weren't even allowed to defend ourselves with the greatest military equipment in the world.  Even during blackhawk down in Somalia I was with the lincoln battle group and sitting in our combat information center listening to the Admiral plead to allow us to fight back and orders from washington were to stand down.  In other words, let everyone die... (that part didn't make the movie)

As I became more financially successful I became more fiscally conservative (lower taxes) because that's what people do.  When I became a business owner and saw the other side of the game my fiscal conservatism was amplified times 1000.

My stance on civil rights, due process, death penalty, etc came from a first person experience in the criminal justice system where I saw how horribly poor people are treated by the system.  I also saw how unfair our court system is to the defendant and it really opened my eyes.  (LB and I have had many good discussions about this)

Many other experiences shaping various things but for the most part I've evolved and change as I've grown older.  Several people here have shaped some of my beliefs which is why I really enjoy the dialog here.

When young, most of us have relatively few resources and relatively little experience.  If you have less than average and are inexperienced, liberal/socialistic "ideals" are quite attractive as you'd have more (they force everything to the average) and don't have to think (or accept consequences for mistakes) in that scheme than not.

I'm now far more "experienced" than I was at 20 and I've accumulated more than average.  Adopting those same "ideals" that were attractive at 20 aren't nearly as valuable and would cost me substantially.

Full disclosure:  I was never particularly liberal/socialistic as a 20 year old.  I have, however, been accused many times of being too conservative, hard-hearted, etc.

Rog, this is a moronic idea. Look, I cannot imagine how apoplectic you would be (and I would support you) if Obama had dissolved the 5th circuit (TX, LA, MS). These institutional guardrails keep out country from veering too far one direction or the other. If Trump was to do this, what would keep the next Dem prez (and this is going to happen) from blowing up a conservative circuit and on and on it would go until we are a true banana republic.
