In Arizona we have a "Stupid Motorist Law", you will be fined the cost of the rescue for getting trapped if you go around road barricades during flooding.
We need one of those in SA. Every time it rains enough to flood low water crossings, we have rescue crews working overtime pulling people to safety. There's usually at least one fatality in which a car rolls over in these fast moving waters, drowning them. Most of them now have water activated red lights and the city will install barriers. No help, it still happens like clockwork.
True story. Friend of mine was a camera operator for one of the local news outlets. Interviewing a guy that just got pulled from a crossing that was 5 foot underwater. Interview was going great, guy was grateful…blah blah blah. The newsperson asked him why he attempted to go through when there is a flood gauge in plain view that indicated the water was at 5 feet. His response, " Oh, that means 5 feet, I thought it meant 5 inches."
"Cut, we can't air this, thank you for your time Sir."
