Swim
Comments: Fairly easy swim, being rather short and in the pool. Pretty much raced my plan, starting out most of the first 50m breathing every four strokes, etc. That made me a little out of breath but not too bad. Got passed a couple of times, but also passed three or four myself. Hard to pass in a pool, particularly when somebody is trying to pass you. Those lanes are barely made for two wide, much less three. What would you do differently?: Probably nothing. Came out as expected. Transition 1
Comments: Standard transition. Came out, got my bike gear on, didn't go with socks so as to get out a little quicker. Ran past the mount line by a few yards, climbed on and took off. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Pretty good bike overall. Managed fairly well on the couple of hills that are out there, seemed to get up those easier than I remember, maybe due to all the strength training I've been doing via TRX. Nice bike ride too. What would you do differently?: Nothing, saisfied. Transition 2
Comments: Sat down and put socks on here, so accounts for the extra time getting in and out of T2. What would you do differently?: Could've saved time by not wearing socks, but haven't trained for that this year. Run
Comments: Ran my plan but, once again, run was quite slower, and actually much slower than it felt while out there. Didn't help that my Garmin was dysfunctional today, and didn't pick up a satellite until about halfway through. Ran first five minutes comfortably, then jogged for a minute, walking last 20 seconds. Did that again, but with minutes three and four at a slightly picked up pace. After jogging/walking through first water stop, I did 5x two minutes at a good clip and one minute jogging, with every other jogging minute incorporating 20 seconds of walking. It was during this point the Garmin came on, and my "on" periods were under a 10-minute mile pace. Once done with those five, I ran another slow minute, with 20 seconds walking at end, then did 30/30s through the end, only a couple of minutes or so, during which I was also under a 10-minute pace. So I must've gone really slow in the opening minutes for it to turn out this slow. I didn't have an expectation of beating 31 or even 32 minutes, but I certainly expected to beat 33. Of course I did wake up with a pretty bad cold, with I still can't shake as I write this, although I didn't consciously feel its effects during the race. What would you do differently?: Scratching my head over my runs this year. More than last year already with two months to go, but everything is slower. Post race
Warm down: Walked around with my water bottle, ate a couple of pancakes. What limited your ability to perform faster: Congested lanes on the swim, and a bad cold. Event comments: Good race overall. Same setup and course as my first tri this year, same venue, etc. So DAR has it down pretty good. It does take a long time to get going at the start due to the swim methodology; for a slow swimmer, it can be a long wait, but it's never bothered me too much. Last updated: 2018-10-21 12:00 AM

Found a space, waited almost 20 minutes in line to get into transition, then waited another hour or so to get started.
