Pre-race routine:

Up at 3:30, ate my oatmeal, got in the car for the 2:20 drive. Had a banana an hour before getting there.
Event warmup:

Rode the 1/4 mile from the parking lot to the TZ. Got everything set up and then swam 100m or so.

Comments:

Race was delayed by 90 min due to a storm, and then they said no Oly, so everyone was a sprint. It was no longer seeded by times, so it was a free for all. That being said, I felt like it was a great swim. I navigated great, kept it comfortably hard, but never redlined, made it through a lot of traffic. I was thrilled until I looked at my watch. It was 1:15 slower than when I race d here 2 yrs ago, but everyone was slow. Rain/wind must've shifted bouys, becasue my time from last time would've been the 3rd fastest today. I'm still pleased with it

nothing

Comments:

Went OK. I was able to run all the way to T1. Everything was soaked, but got shoes/helmet/glasses on quickly and got out fairly well. Couldn't get clipped in to start, but was already on the bike by then.
What would you do differently?:

nothing. 3rd ffastest T1 in AG, and 10th fastest overall

Comments:

Great ride, too. Damn power meter wasn't working. It worked while riding in from the parking lot, but not during the race. Had speedometer, but no power. It was 3sec slower than last time, but I was pleased. Only passed by 2 people the whole way, and I passed a ton adn felt great. The last 2 miles coming back into the wind was tough, but kept it steady and was pleased wiht the ride.

Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

Took a few exrtra seconds to sit down and put on socks, so wasted ~10 more sec, but otherwise it was fine. Grabbed hat, belt, and was gone.

Run
  • 23m 57s
  • 3 kms
  • 07m 59s  min/km
Comments:

Run was average at best. I was hoping to run 22:30. Came out wiht HR spiking and really had to slow for a bit at the first water stop. Knee bohtered me a little, not too bad. It was humid and hot, and couldn't really push dur to HR. Walked at water stops, but ran the whole last mile, just couldn't find any speed. Still came in just under 8min pace, so not terrible, but the extra 90 sec woud've bumped me up 6 places, and an extra 2 min would've won the AG.
What would you do differently?:

Run more. Damn knee has been killing me, so I had done zero running in 2 weeks. Can't be too upset with this performance due to the lack of training, but II still like to think I can occasionally run fast.
Post race
Warm down:

stood around for a few minutes, talked to some other racers, grabed some food, my gear, and drove home

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of run training

Event comments:

RD did a great job of communicating about weather delays. I was glad to delay and start late than just cancel the entire race, which they were considering. Once it started, everything was great. Pplenty of volunteers, good post race spread, great venue.
