Comments: Little longer than I'd hoped for, but this includes the quarter-mile or so run down to the transition area. Even so, Garmin indicated I exited water in about 11:17, about 30 seconds slower than I'd been doing in the pool. This is due mainly to my stopping at the lane ends to allow those pushing up on me to pass. What would you do differently?: Might've pushed myself into a slightly faster group here, leading to people catching up and needing to pass. Overall, though, not that many had to, but enough to slow my time. Transition 1
Comments: Quicker transition than I'd have imagined, got in and out pretty good. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Fairly pleased with the bike leg. Might've pushed a little too hard on the uphills but not sure it impacted my run leg much. Fell in behind on of the ladies I'd stood in line around the pool with and just kept her in sight; she was pushing a solid pace, figured as long as I could see her, I would be too. What would you do differently?: Work the gears a little better on the uphills. Kept it in the big ring, probably could've used the smaller a time or two. Transition 2
Comments: Can't believe got through T2 this quickly. Didn't bring my sockless running shoes to MD, so actually sat on grass to pull socks on and tie up my primary Hokas. Felt like it took forever, but not too bad. What would you do differently?: Have sockless running shoes available with bungee laces. With those I probably could've gotten out a minute or so faster. Run
Comments: The grass made for a slow start since it was deep and made for wobbly ankles and shoes...but, because of the effort involved, a higher heart rate. Not a good combo. Followed the plan pretty well otherwise; walked part of the hill the first time through (had a lot of company), trudged up at a very slow jog the second time. Had certainly hoped for a better pace, but given the sis probably the toughest run course I've done, combined with reduced training after my last race in TX...hard to be too dissatisfied. What would you do differently?: Maybe not walk the hill that first loop...would've cut the pace, though likely not to under 12:00/mile. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and sucked down a bottle of water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training status, which isn't surprising given reduced volume after my A race a month or so ago and our making our way from TX to MD in the meantime. Event comments: A fun race with a good vibe, lots of first timers...always very cool to see and fun to experience that with them. Last updated: 2023-06-18 12:00 AM
