New Hampshire’s first and largest statewide triathlon organization is the Granite State Triathlon Club (GSTC), and its members are hooked on the healthy benefits of swimming, biking, and running a variety of distances. Encouraging new members to join, the GSTC announces that its membership window will be open from November 1, 2006 until January 15, 2006, or until membership reaches 75 participants. Veteran triathletes and newcomers alike are invited to join. At present, the GSTC consists of 65 athletes, ranging from age 14 to 66, residing across the state. Members’ racing experience ranges from first-triathlon newcomers to age group winners. Members enjoy benefits including free coached group training sessions, bike maintenance workshops, and discounts on clothing and accessories from local and national vendors. Throughout the season, the GSTC hosts race-specific trainings, including open-water swim clinics, track workouts, brick workouts, nutrition workshops, and transition practice. All 2007 members receive free, customized Louis Garneau racing uniforms, in the club’s spirited orange and royal blue color scheme. Members also receive a club t-shirt, customized water bottle, car decal, and GU packets. GSTC offers its members a 15% discount off of personalized training with head coach Suzan Ballmer. In 2007, the club will train together and participate in at least three official club races, cheering each other on from the sidelines and receiving expert tips from Coach Ballmer. Members will also have the opportunity to travel to Montreal as a team to compete in international competition, the Esprit Triathlon de Montreal. The GSTC also announces the addition of a Junior GSTC Team (8 to 12 year old youth), more social events for family, and training sessions held at facilities across the state. As in 2006, the club will again host its “Ride Around the Lake,” a mid-summer, 65-mile supported group bicycle ride around Lake Winnipesaukee.
