I'm not trying to be an a$$, I'm asking a legitimate question. You said the sales people all have offices. Maybe in this company, offices aren't a status thing. Where I currently work, the vast majority of people are in "cubes". However, they're very short. Even sitting, I can see across the entire dept. This creates an atmosphere of increased camaraderie and communication, neither of which are bad things. Maybe they feel that, as a manager in a non-sales role, you should be viewed as being available, and being out in the open creates that impression. Perhaps they just don't currently have the space for an office, but you could've gotten one later....
