Okay, I guess I was appointed team captain for Team Grey. To make things easier, make sure everything is in your training log. I will check your logs at the end of each week and update the totals. In case you haven't done a challenge before, the goal is to get the most team members at 100% of their goal.

Let's all get 100% this month! Start week 1 off strong so you don't have to play catch-up at the end of the month. I think it would be a good idea to add the members of the team to your friend list so it will be easy to check on each other and provide support.

Use this thread to keep us updated on your progress and encourage each other.

Go Grey!

Here's our spreadsheet with totals for the first week.    Only two of us are on pace in both swim and run.   Let's all make sure to catch up for next week.  It gets harder and harder as the month rolls on!.  My team won the December Challenge and I expect a win this month too!  Go Grey!

Actually, I didn't get yesterday's run in my log until lunch today.   I think I'm on pace.    Our weeks end on Sunday, right?

How is everybody doing this week?  I got a little over zealous last week with the running and am a little hurt this week.  Nothing serious, but I feel I need a few days off my feet.   I am not going to have big run numbers this week.   I'll try and get my swim numbers a little ahead to make up for it.

Lesson for the week - Don't break the 10% rule with running, ever

Started with some rest days , Plan is to alternate swim and running with a long run on the weekend .
To get in shape for Olympic Distance later this year I working up my endurance to 1500 m freestyle in the pool.

For sound advice on running there are many sources out there . One I have found really useful and packed with advice for the novice runner is :

Running 101 by Joe Henderson
The author has taken the profound aspects of running and presented them in simple, easily remembered bite-sized nuggets. Running 101 contains 101 fantastic lessons from the teacher who’s been there, done that, and who, like our favorite teachers of all time, wants to share those experiences and relive them with us.
I found as I am working up my distances that i gravitate back to this book and a lot of the advice starts to make sense.

My 2 cents

On track for the January challenge with 3400metres in the warm outdoor Olympic pool 79F (air 40F) and 21.1 miles running with some hills and a 10 mile race. Got some new shoes and developped a few blisters but everything is going real good and I am looking forward to some rest.

Here's the number for week 2.  Good work everyone!  We are at 40% of our goal as a team and 42% of the month is over, so not too bad.  If you are behind, let's try to catch up this week if you can.

Go Grey!

So I'm in great shape for the run, but the swim, yeah, about the swim part.  I kinda slept through masters yesterday and I'm a bit behind.  I'll be able to catch-up a bit tomorrow with the holiday.  And, if all else, I'll probably be swimming most of the night on the last day of the month to meet my goal (I did 6000 yards one night at the very end of last month so I'd be able to meet my year goal

Here's week 3's totals.  We are at 59% of the team with 65% of the month gone.   Still plenty of time to catch up so get out there and train!

I am ahead in swimming, but I have fallen behind in running.  I have a knee injury which has limited my running and I probably won't get 100%  I'll do my best given the circumstances.

Funny you should mention sleep.  I'm seriously considering suggesting a sleep challenge for February.   This training volume is new to me, and it's only going up from here for a while.  I'm doing well with it, but everything suffers when I don't sleep enough.

I am done with my swim challenge : 12km completed up from 10 km last month . I really want to compete in some Olympic Distance Triathlons this year and swimming is my limiter, So the challenge is helpful in getting me to the pool to work on my technique and endurance.
Hope everyone else's training is going strong.
