Vintage Steel Frames

I really want vintage ti, but I'll take a cool old steel frame.  I want a old, but good steel frame, not just some old thrift store bike.

As far as why do I want it, because they have soul.  Carbon Fiber has no soul.  My QR is great for races and training in the right place, but I live in Atlanta and I can't get down in my aerobars in Atlanta Traffic.  I want to build up an old steel/ti frame and train on it.  I used to work near some really good bike lanes, but I switched jobs about 6 months ago, and very little riding since then. 

I found mine at GoodWill. 

I am in the process of fixing up so it looks better.  There was some rust and things expected with a 30 year old bike but It is alright. 

The bad thing is it just sits on my 1st floor balcony now, next to some left over lumber from my wainscoating I did in my place.  Someone came over the other day and said, "If rednecks lived in condos instead of the country, and were into bikes instead of cars, this is exactly what their front yard would look like."   But when people are over I use the bike it sit on.  I am thinking of chopping it up turning it into peices of patio furniture instead of getting it back to riding condition.  We will see what happens to it. 

AdventureBear - 2007-04-09 11:52 PM I have a "vintage" 1991 Bridgestone steel frame mountain bike. 1" headset, suntour parts, rigid fork, 24/36/48 front chainrings & cantilever brakes. It's in great, ridable condition and in fact did my first several tris on it, including several Olys & my 'qualifying' race for Escape from Alcatraz (got a lottery spot)...but it's not for sale.

Yeah!  Get one of those original Teledynes if you can find one.  Good luck with that, but it might be possible if you find someone who doesn't know what they have.  Ebay is out because most sellers know what it's worth.  There's one on Ebay with a current starting bid of $1,000.
