Subject: Getting Started in Texas My brother-in-law, a lifetime swimmer, started doing tri's last year. We went for a four-mile run when I was visiting for Labor Day, and he killed me, and this was after a 60-minute bike ride! That convinced me to start running more. Now, after waffling for about a month or two, I finally committed to training for a triathlon last week. To see if I had the stamina to workout non-stop for an hour, I ran 7.5 miles in 60 minutes on Sunday, so I figured this thing would be a piece of cake. Just put in the time and the results follow, right?
Well, I went for my first swim workout on Wednesday morning, and I could barely make it 50 meters at a time! I did 10 of 'em, but my breathing and stroke broke down after about 35 - 40 meters. I have a lot of work to do there, but I am committed to it, so let's bring it on!
My first tri is a short one on March 13th. 300 meter swim, 13 mile bike and 3 mile run. I have no doubts about the bike and the run, but I am concerned about swimming 300 meters at once!
I have been a pretty serious golfer for the last eight or nine years, but for some crazy reason, I am going to give up a lot of time on the links to make myself tired most afternoons and some mornings. Ain't it great?!
Anyways, if anyone knows of a good swim coach in Houston/Sugar Land, I would love to hear it. I think I could use some instruction...
