My birthday just passed this week. (I feel like I'm 22, but that's not the number of candles that were on my cake.)  I received the most wonderful gift from my husband and it got me to thinking...  What's the best birthday (or Christmas) present you've received as an adult?

Here's mine:  Hubby, who works way more than the usual 40hr/wk job and is in grad school, found time to email/call my three best friends who are scattered all over the country to put my gift together.  They narrowed down 3 weekends that the three girlfriends were free and clear of obligations and could get away for an extended weekend.  They picked three destinations that they thought I would enjoy. (However, destinations are not limited - Hawaii has even been mentioned!!)  I get to pick the 3-day weekend and the destination to go away and spend some quality time with my three best girlfriends.  Half the fun is just figuring out where we want to go and what we want to do.   This is an awesome gift on so many different levels.    A lot to be thankful for!

So, what's yours?

That is awesome Jan, hope you have a wonderful trip!  My best birthday gift was a surprise roadtrip along the N.Cal coast, with lunch at Stinson Beach, a roadside stop for flowers, then a surprise party with close friends when we got home that night I will never forget it!

1kt diamond earrings, because I had NO clue he was getting them. He usually asks me what I want and that year he didn't.

I love your gift. Talk about putting a lot of thought into something!

What an amazing and thoughtful gift!!! Yep, I'd hang on to that hubby for sure

For my 25th birthday, my sister's husband (now where do I find one like that!) designed the tattoo that goes down my left thigh, and another friend inked it on.

For some reason, the only clear pic I have of it is from last month's avatar ...

Very thoughtful of your husband to provide a get-away for you and your friends. I'm sure he'd rather his schedule were different so that you could be spending that time together.

My husband was in Saudi Arabia for a year. My birthday was shortly before he returned. He spent the entire year over there with a special pad of legal paper that he carried in his brief case at all times. Every time he would think of me or a special memory of something we had done together he got out the pad and jotted down just one line that would trigger the memory. He had filled several pages by time my b-day arrived. When I received my birthday card with the list inside I laughed and cried for hours.

This December will be five years since he passed away and those sheets of yellow legal paper are tucked away in my safety deposit box because they are the most valuable thing I own.

Wow ... this post made me cry. I love that Jan started this thread, and now that you posted something so beautiful on it. Thanks for reminding me what's truly important in life.

Judy this makes me cry! My DH did something similar when he was in Iraq when the war first started. He wrote me letters, that he couldn't mail and brought them home to me. Your post made me realize how important they are to me, and I'm making a note to keep it safe for the future.

That's beautiful and what a wonderful thing to have now that he's gone.  I'm so sorry for you loss.  My hubby was Navy and we spent quite a while apart, too.  I just have to think back to the days when he was deployed to get a really quick reality check on what's important in my life.

Thank you ladies. We all seem to have had the military experience. He was a Marine Corps Lt. Col and our son is now an Army LT. It certainly does make you appreciate every moment you have with family and friends.
