On August the 3rd, I will compete in the SportsSpectrum RiverCities Triathlon. My time last year was 2:39 and some change and was my first full size sprint. 1/2 mile swim 18 mile bike and 5k. My goal for this year has been to take 15 minutes off my time. For Fathers Day my wife bought me 3 months with a tri coach and we have increased my training and pushed my intensity level to a new level. I am literally already nervous about the race, because for once on my journey, someone else has decided how I would train and I committed to follow that regimen even if I didn't always agree with it. My coach thinks that I can knock more than 15 minutes off my time, but I just don't know. My last race, I had a real off day, but I finished. So the cat is out of the bag and now the board knows what my personal goal is. I am looking forward to coming back with a race report that says I finished under 2:25 By the way the weather is usually about 90 degrees by the finish with humidity at about 60 to 75 percent, which makes for a lovely race day.

20 minutes michael.  how does that sound.  u have had a whole year to improve.  i think your coach is right on!!!  we need some more optimism here.  if u don't improve by 20 minutes, then it is the decision of the board to give u 5-page essay on how protein, carb and fat metabolism shifts from the aerobic to the anaerobic workout.   and u know u don't wanna have to do that michael!!!

great luck...(it's understood that no 'luck' is needed - just optimism!)

Think positive, you can do it. 20 minutes sounds like a realistic goal to me, especially with all of the hard work you're putting in with the coach. Don't be nervous, I wish my husband would buy me a tri coach, what a great gift! Take advantage of it and fly through the race. You'll probably surprise yourself like I did in my last race. I'll be nervous with you since my first Olympic distance is the weekend after your event. You know we'll want details and I hope you don't have to write that essay for Ron, I wouldn't even know where to start on that subject.

Thanks Brenda and Ron,
Had a meeting with my coach via telephone today and I am feeling much better. I tend to put to much pressure on myself and we discussed not doing that today. I had an off night at the track last night and it really started giving me a case of the doubts. Today I'm back and on the positive side of the world.

You can do it. You won't have another off day. Go for it.
