Pre-race routine:

Slept great until about 4am when my youngest woke up and then never was able to really go back to sleep. So, I finally got up about 6am and took my time drinking coffee, having breakfast, getting dressed, and checking out the weather.
Event warmup:

I got to the event about 40min ahead of time. I did the usual- get chip, go to bathroom, run around for a warm-up, ect... It was chilly, but not uncomfortable.

Comments:

It started to drizzle just a few seconds before the horn blew to start the race. It was light at first, and then picked up to a steady rain and lasted throughout the entire event. The first mile was mostly downhill, so I wasn't too surprised that that was my fastest mile. I got slower each mile after that, but then picked it up on mile 4. I did through in a few short walk breaks to just let my hr come down a little. The race ended with a hill the last .2 miles to the finish- very cruel of them to put that hill right there! :) I got to the finish line and saw that Raegan had brought to boys out to see me finish! That made my race perfect, especially since I didn't know anyone out there!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, except maybe re-grade the streets so that it would be a flat course! :) I feel that everything went well for me today. I didn't have any pains, cramps, or negative thooughts. It was just a good, hard run.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung around the finish line tents for a little while with Raegan and the boys, but then started to get chilled. Went back to the car and changed into a dry shirt and jacket. Raegan and the boys headed home while I waited in the cold (but fortunately out of the rain) for the award ceremony. My teeth were chattering the entire time! They did a good job of getting through the awards quickly!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I guess the hills. I probably should do more hilly runs in my training.

Event comments:

This was a very nice small race. This was only their 2nd year to have it. i had heard that this year they had doubled the field, but i don't think everyone who signed up actually came out. The weather probably kept a lot of people at home.

Sorry for the previous - now blank - posting that I did under your login...guess that's what the preview button is good for.

Great job today!  Glad I was able to get the boys moving, eating, and dressed.  Having to only wait at the finish line for <5 mins also helped too - thanks for coming in around my prediction for you.

Great job getting out in the cold and picking up some cold-metal hardware! As for the hills...get yourself over to Astoria Lane for some repeats and next year the AG will be your's for the taking!
