![]() | ![]() Hi Tommy, I would like to join your group and be your mentee. As a way of introduction, I’m 33 years old average runner (NYC and Berlin marathons in 07 at 3:58h), working long hours with a wife + new baby so i can't trian more than 4-5 times a week realistically. I am very fresh to tri and plan to work hard to complete an olympic one this year. As a former fighter pilot I can be very disciplined, so I would welcome a well structured plan and your words of advice and encouragements to accomplish my goals. I look for a fun, enjoying and healthy process. Looking forward to hearing from you, Best, Ranan |

I did an Olympic as my "A" race in my first tri season while serving in a very demanding command cadre position, so it is totally doable! Tommy |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tommy- I would like to join your group. Name: azstaterick - Rick Story: I have always been pretty active but not of the endurance sport type. About a year and a half ago, a close friend talked to me about marathons. I always thought that was for other people. Not me. I decided to give it a try and really enjoyed the race. My wife ran with me. We had fun training together and I suppose having your first be the Maui Half mary helps. Anyway, I have become hooked. Triathlons have always been a distant goal of mine. I had a high school teacher who did Ironman Hawaii (early 80s) and a college friend also did them. I just never seriously thought about doing one. I decided to try a local one last year and enjoyed it. I completed 4 last year. I served in the Air Force and like structure. I have not had to battle weight issues besides being out of shape but am a lifelong asthmatic. Family Status: Married 20 years with an 8yo daughter Goals: I am going to sign up and compete in the Boise 70.3 on 6/1/08. I would like some assistance with finding a right plan that offers balance in my life. I would like some assistance with nutrition. I have been working on this over the past few years but can improve. I am really interested in learning about fueling up to get me through the 70.3 I would like to improve my speed. I am fit but incredibly slow. In addition to the Boise 70.3, I plan on completing several half marys, sprint and oly tris and possibly a full mary this year. Any advice you have would be appreciated. Feel free to ask me any questions for clarification Thanks Rick |

Welcome aboard Rick - excited that you'll be racing a 70.3 this year! It should be a great experience. Thanks for your service in the Air Force too - my Dad and two younger brothers have retired from the Air Force. I was the only defector (and proud of it) by going to the Coast Guard. Happy to help you find a training plan that will allow you to be successful with your 70.3 training and have a life (it's a delicate balance). Please add Ranan (FlyingLachman) to your friend's list. Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi Tommy, I would like to join the mentor group as well if possible. I'll give you the basics for now... Pete London, Ontario 28 5'10" 150lbs I just started this past season, with some sprint duathlons and a few road races, I started running about 1 year ago (other then a little cross crountry in highschool) and started biking this past spring (no prior, cycling experience). I did duathlons this past season because I could barely swim at all, since the 2007 season ended I've hit the pool and I'm really working on my swim with a tri-buddy. Anything else you need to know just ask. Thanks Pete |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mornin' folks - this group is now closed - I'm stoked to work with you all this season! Welcome aboard to Dave, Pete, and Joys who all posted yesterday! 1st - please add each other (and me) to your friends list in BT. Second - I've listed what I perceive your "A" race to be. "A" race being the most important race of the season that your training will be focused on. If you didn't list a specific race, you should probably decide on one. Depending on the location, popularity, etc., registrations can fill up very quickly. This is a start: Dynamite (tnt2tri) Mentor Group So we have a nice spread of interests, goals, and backgrounds ... this'll be fun! Thanks for joining this group! Let's have a great year. |

Running is the discipline I'm focusing on this season, because it is the weakest of the three for me. Made some pretty huge gains after training for and completing the Marine Corps Marathon. If you are a strong runner, that's a great weapon to have in the arsenal. You should probably pick an HIM soon and make sure you don't miss the registration window. Plus, I can list a specific race for you in this thread [hint]. Tommy |

Any idea what distance you want to tackle this year? |

Any idea what distance you want to tackle this year? Well I'm gonna start with a try-a-tri at the beggining of the season then my main goal is a sprint close to the end, but if my swimming gets alot better I might do a sprint in the middle and olympic at the end. So right now it all depends on how quickly my swim improves as I know with proper training my run and bike will be fine. |

![]() | ![]() Hi Tommy - thanks for getting back to me so promptly! After thoroughly discussing this with my husband, I have decided not to do the triath this year. Maybe another year. Sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused! I should have thought about it more before jumping the gun! You know how us women can be at times ![]() ![]() |

You know how us women can be at times ![]() ![]() Joyce - I'm keeping you on the distribution list, but have opened up one more slot for someone else if they need it. Don't worry! There have been many times I "jumped the gun", like when I registered for Ironman Couer d'alene before checking with my wife. Umm, yeah. I backed out. Anyway, please follow our progress, and pick one or more of the disciplines to work on if you like. Thanks for your interest and for letting us open the group back up. |

Member![]() | ![]() I'm Tyler Leggett. I'm 24 have a full time job one child and one on the way due in Aug. I started doing tris about eight months ago. I completed one sprint tri last summer. My plans for this summer are to complete an Oly early and a half iron in june. My focus this winter has been on the run and I have greatly increased my endurance and small gains in speed. I have lost 20 lbs since I started and I would like to lose an additional 30 by the half iron. I don't think this will be an issue as I increase my training volume. Currently, I'm 5'8" and 190 lbs. I started doing tri's as a means for motivation in leading a healthier lifestyle. |
