sastuff - 2010-08-15 9:47 PM My first Olympic distance is in the bank.

3:01:33
8/9 age group
unknown overall (results not yet posted)

Swim time is improving at a 2:20 pace.
Bike time was too conservative.  I keep thinking stay comfortable and save it for the run.
Run time is the weak event.
Transitions went very well.

Waiting on overall results for the Race Report.

Scott

Awesome job Scott!  can't wait to read the race report!

Overall results in and race report posted.  Finished 52 out of 87 - bottom of AG and middle of the pack.

This will be my official Olympic distance baseline.  Lots of room for improvement.

my first Olympic time was 3:40 something, the next year, same race I cut off 45 minutes!  I know you will blast this time next year. Good race overall, you should be proud

A few more events for me.  If work doesn't get in the way, I will be doing the Hotter N Hell Hundred bike ride this weekend in Wichita Falls, TX.  Also, I threw money down for the Toad Suck Olympic distance on 9/11.

I have officially declared myself to be in the offseason.  People laugh when I tell them that.  Goals for next season: HM in early may, beat this year's time by an hour at the Dam Tri, complete a HIM in august.

Unfortunately, drew call for the weekend so I could not go to TX for the HHH.  I did get to ride.

I'm with you Tom on the HIM next year.  I need to decide which one.

I am still in serious training for HIM Branson in 3 weeks. One more week of hellish training, then I will start my taper. After that, I think I am done for 2010. This will be my 10th race this year and I am hoping to let this old bag of bones recover!

Home stretch for you James.  Your HIM race report will either convince me to do the convenient Branson or look farther away for a flatter course!

Just over a week to go, James.  How are you feeling about it?

My wife thinks I'm officially crazy--I'm signed up for Timberman 70.3 next summer!

Completed the Toad Suck 33 this morning.

Unofficial results:
3:05:04

Swim time was bad.  I ended up getting kicked a couple of times at the start breaking my goggles.  Completing the swim efficiently with no goggles was not going happen.  Eyes closed, I kept straying from the buoy line.  After twice being corrected by a kayaker, I started to sight a lot more and consumed myself with "am I on course?" which really slowed me down.  I had my goggles on the outside of my swim cap and I think I read somewhere that it might be better to put your cap over your goggle straps.  Anyway, I was near the back of all the swimmers coming out of the lake.

Bike time was ok.  Passed quite a few trying to regain the lost ground.
Run time was good for me.  While I only passed a few, I did not get passed as I normally do.
Transitions went very well.

Biggest disappointment - breaking 3 hours was within reach if not for the swim.

I am actually feeling fairly confident about the whole thing. I have my race plan down and I feel like I can follow it. I don't like to say I am racing Branson 70.3 as much as I like to say I am running Branson 70.3. I really want to have fun and enjoy my first HIM, but I also want a decent time. My goal is for around the 6:30 mark. And that all depend son the bike course and how hilly it is!

After all season, I am ready for it to get here!

Scott, man, I feel for ya trying to swim with broken goggles. Showed a lot of cajones just finishing the swim, so Congrats on toughing that out! I can just see all the spectators seeing you coming out of the water and saying, Holy Cow, that guy did the swim without any goggles!

Thanks, James.  I am sure the spectators were saying something more like "The newbie didn't know he should be wearing goggles" or "He must have left his Spongebob mask in the bathtub".  And you are right, for a very split second I thought about rolling over on my back and slipping back to the start line and calling it a day.  That quickly went away and fortunately the rest of the race was uneventful and really showed some improved times for me.

More detail, still working on the Race Report:

Overall time 3:05:04 with overall ranking 37/73
Swim 41:28 AG 8/8 (ouch!!)
Bike 1:24:45 AG 2/8 (alright!!!)
Run 55:51 AG 4/8 (9:00 pace - happy with that!!!)

Good luck with Branson this weekend.  Hope you are amped up.  I'll want some detail on that bike and run course!

Heber Springs Sprint Tri today wraps up the season with a bang.

Overall time 1:26:19 with overall ranking 30/138
Swim 9:32 AG 2/8 (water was cold and the wetsuit paid off)
Bike 44:21 AG 3/8 (felt good but also could have pushed it a little harder)
Run 29:09 AG 4/8 (8:34 pace...marathon training helped)

Finished 3rd in AG, but just barely.  It was a sprint to the finish and he was two steps behind me.

Great fun this year and already looking forward to next year.

Scott

Still on and in maintenance mode.  Next goal is LR Marathon in March.

Good luck with the P90.  A few friends tell me it lives up to the muscle confusion as advertised!

Scott, it is tough!

I thought about the LR marathon, but I want to focus on P90X through January and not sure I'd have enough time to train. You should consider the Memphis in May triathlon this year!

I was just talking to a neighbor about Memphis in May.  It is definitely on the radar.

Looks like May 21-22 with registration opening on December 1, 2010.

They are moving it to Tunica this year, so it will be a new course all together.!  Let me know if you decide to race it! It'd be cool to meet ya!
