Jenn and Polly,  Welcome!!  Great to have you join!

Buddaha - As of this morn, I am jumping on the wagon with you regarding the diet soda, a huge vice for me.  As my only source of caffeine, I am shooting to be free of it by the end of Feb or earlier, depending on withdrawls.Tongue out

Not sexy I know, but I thought I would throw it out there.

Thats why I love being in your group...you keep me honest.

Well, it is common for me to have 1/2 a 2 ltr by 1pm before heading out to work.Embarassed  Not all at once tho, maybe 10-12oz every 1-2 hours starting at 8ish.  I kicked it a few years ago and suffered through 3 days of headaches.  I usually drink h20 all day at work until 10p and guess I take in about 40-60oz of water each day, so I am trying to make up for it.

What do you think?

P.S.  Signed up for Door County 1/2 today.

Yay!!!!  Thanks for including me in this great group.  After I posted my request, I went back and read all the posts.

Just a little about me - I'm 38, married for 10 years, our twin boys will be 3 in January.  My husband has 4 kids from his 1st marriage, so the holidays are always a blast when everyone comes to visit.  Anyways, I work out at a small gym that has classes and personal trainers.  A girl that I work out with was training for her first tri last year and she broke 3 toes about 2 weeks before the event.  She asked me a few weeks ago if I was interested in training with her and joining her for the event.  I figured "what the heck? I can do this, even if I have to drag my broken body across the finish line."  So here I am, trying to learn everything there is about tris.

I have a bike trainer that I use when I can't get out of the house to work out.  My gym has a daycare area that watches the boys when I'm working out, but I can't get out to run outside very often, and I haven't even been in the water yet!  I'm not very athetic, so I really need the support and encouragement that I can do this.

That's about it!  I'm very excited to be part of this group!

Thats not THAT bad I use to drink a lot too.  Maybe you can NOT have 2 liter bottles around...maybe just have the 20or even 24 oz bottles and have ONE   for a start.  That should be enough to not give you theheadache

Does your gym have a pool?  I totally suggest a running stroller for your twins... I actually had one for my triplets untilthey just didnt fit anymore.  They will love it and so will you!

Glad to see you post, I was getting worried with all these women around I was going to be to sole guy left. Not that that would be a bad thing. I'm on my fourth can today and am going to try and stay under six. I already got 24 ounces of water in but I doubt I'll get any more today.

I did get on the treadmill for the second 300 of the day. Starting Monday the morning workouts will be more difficult, I have to go back to work. I have a second sleep study Sunday night so I will not be working out Monday and Sunday HAS to be caffene free for the test. But this should be the last of the medical blockages to the morning workouts.

Moderate to severe sleep apena, sorry I thought I mentioned it earlier. This time its with a CPAP machine to try and get air in while I sleep. Maybe I'll be able to get back to my 4:30 am wake-ups to exercise again.

Welcome to the group Jenn and Polly. I am currently on vacation so surfing and leisurely bike rides will be my only activity until I get home. I promise when I get home I will hit it hard though. I feel really good about this year! I am stoked to be in such an awesome group!!!!

Yeah but if I can't get up and I'm falling asleep buy the time I get home I'll never make it to the studlike level. When I think of all my medical problems just about all of them can be traced to being as heavy as I am. We'll see if I can fix that this year. Down 30 punds by Cinco-De- Mayo, for a guilt free Margarita party. Another 30 pounds by October for a good Marathon then seriously train for IMWI in '10.

Well now you have one in New Lenox. We'll find a 5K to justify all the Margaritas just bring a designated driver, last cinco-de-mayo everyone was passed out by 9:00 pm it took me all the next day to get my deck and yard cleaned up.

I know the vertigo thing can knock a lot out of youfor a while

I felt a bit awkward during a couple of swim sessions...had not felt it during the spin classes.  While visiting our friends, I could not get up off the chair much less drive...it just got worse within minutes along w/ blurred vision....and off to the ER.  After an ekg, as well as scan, all they could narrow it down to was the dizziness/ vertigo.  I know I have had it in the past....my wife still wonders if it was a combination of other meds.... Hey I did find my resting hr...49.   They did give me meds as needed for the vertigo.

SweetP - 2009-01-01 5:04 PM

Thanks Tammy!

I'm Polly (BT name - SweetP, which is a pet name from my hubby).  I ran track in high school and have always been sort of active, but hubby and I decided to tackle triathlons in 2007.  I only did 2 sprints and had high hopes for 2008.   In February of 2008, we were in FL on vacation and I was running to build my base and had some pain in my arm etc.  When we got home I found out I had a DVT (blood clot) in my arm and 5 in my lungs - that landed me in the hospital for 8 days and put a damper on my season.  I had some other medical issues on top of that and I think fear was a big factor.  I only did 1 sprint in August of 2008 and it was rather painful.

I do teach a couple spin classes at the YMCA, and now that I got Yaktracks for Christmas have no reason not to run more.

Personal:  I'm married to David (BT = Brickey) going on 13 years, we have 3 boys (10, 9, and 5).  I'm a stay at home Mom.  I need help with motivation, and accountability, so I'm super stoked to be in this group.  Plus, I'm a big Tammy fan.    My husband is doing IMKY this year, and I want to help him with his training.  I'm not sure where my 2009 goals for triathlons are yet - I've been wavering a bit.  I need to get back in to training and rebuild some of my confidence.

Great to be here - I'm off to read the rest of this forum and "catch-up" with you all.

Polly

Glad you are doing better than in February....life is good.  Enjoy.  Happy training alongside your hubby.

Inner ear infection? That's where all the balance "equipment" is. A resting heart rate of 49, wow I was happy to get mine down to the low 60's a couple of years ago. Hope they find the cause of the vertigo soon.

Good morning group!

Tammy - My tri is on June 5th.  Have you heard of My First Tri?  And My Next Tri?  My First Tri is open only to those athletes that have never competed in a tri before.  My Next Tri is only open to those that have competed in My First Tri and want to do it again, and they rank you based on your improvement over My First Tri from last year.

Like I said before, I'll be lucky to drag my sorry @$$ over the finish line.  My husband told me he'd be there at the finish line with a bucket of KFC cheering me on.  He's not exactly the athletic type, but I'm going to try to change that this year.

Off to the gym today to work out with my trainer, then take a class - I think it's a dance class today... oooo, my favorite!  50 minutes of thumping, dancing, sweating and laughing because I CAN'T dance!

~ get in a pool

~ take my bike to a shop and have it checked over, new tires, etc.

~ I'm going to be in Switzerland Feb 6-14th, so my goal there is to get out at least everyday and do some type of exercize... I'll be skiing 2 days and goofing off the rest.
