I emailed the RD about wave start times, I was told they would not be posted until race weekend.

The taper has started, looking forward to the race and dealing with some heat and this "trail" run I keep hearing about. Good luck to everyone.

I did a participant sort by race number, and all numbers either side of mine were the same age group (M55-59). The numbers immediately before my age group were for W50-54, immediately after were M60-64.

I'm 185 and not sure whether that's an indicator of when my age group gets in the water, or whether getting in the water early is a good thing anyhow (with 2400 people poised to pass me!).

Good luck to all!

Jim

I have used regular road shoes the past two years without any problems. The shoes are rather dirty (trashed) after the race. I use a pair that are about at the end of their life anyway and just toss them after the race.

Chattanooga Jim - 2009-05-08 6:20 AM

Lots of talk here about the grassy, uneven run. I train a lot on trails here. Would wearing trail shoes be better than my usual road shoes?

Thanks for any advice!

Im planning on using last years Mizunos. They only have about 425mi on them. Just dont want to get this year shoes trashed with the sand and dirt.
Hows everyone doing? been quite on here.
Whos driving down and when? Maybe we can make a convoy?
Im planning on leaving thrus morning around 10am and should be on I-75 just north of Macon GA by 11:15am. Rootbeer Brown Honda Element with a MDot and 70.3 FL on back window.

I am flying in on Friday afternoon and thinking I wished I had more time to acclimate...but, for me, this whole thing is a learning experience and I've already learned alot!  (Like having to start a training plan while the kids are still in hockey and skiing is just not really feasible).

I plan to check in on Saturday afternoon then will be around until Monday morning.  The friend I was originally coming to Florida to play with ended up having major surgery (14" worth of rods in her femur) so I'll be going to visit her the rest of the time rather than her coming to Orlando.

Anyway, I am #478!  The #s around me are all F 40-44.  (And so am I

guppie - 2009-05-08 3:38 AM Ok, so I am #1771 and I am F35-39, so what DOES that mean?  If Pro Men start at 6:20 and the last wave has to start by 7:50 where do the rest of us fit in?  Are some age groups together? Do we start every 10 min or every 5?

I don't know why I have become obsessed about this start time thing.  I think it is because my run pace has been crappy for the last two weeks and last night I had a dream that I choked on a Sport Bean when I was on the bike.  I must be really excited!

BTW JonCT - If you do start behind me, don't worry, you won't pass me until the bike

Very funny...I also had a race related dream last night.  I got my pedals confiscated at the airport.  So when I got to Florida I had to buy pedals and couldn't find a bike shop to save my life.  Of course I had forgotten to get dressed and all those usual issues I seem to have in my dreams, but now I'm thinking of putting my pedals in my luggage instead of carrying them around in my purse like I have been since leaving my bike with TriBike Transport.  (They're Speedplays, so they don't take up a whole lot of space at least.)

Anyway....must be getting nervous or something

I think were all dreaming Ironman at this point. I had a flat last week and its been creeping into my dreams a few times, let keep it there!! Took the bike in yesterday for a once over and they replaced the lower headset bearing ring. Rode 30mi taper with the wife and all is good. Got one more 30mi ride sched for wed, NO more flats!! (packing 3 tubes, and 3 Co2 just in case)
I'm planning on checking in on Friday afternoon around 1pm. Then heading over to the hotel to check-in around 3pm. Dropping the bike off Sat around noon. Look for me in my bright lime green Sports Beans shirt and say Hi.
Once more thing....bring a plastic shopping bag to cover your seat and computer while the bike sits in transition, just in case of rain over night.
Right now weather.com is calling for 89 degrees and 60% scattered thunder for race day.
Off to Buenos Aires tonight, (have to limit the beef and wine intake) back Tuesday morning, then vacation!!

I have been enjoying all of great advice everyone has put forward.  I am feeling more and more confident each day.  Flying in on friday afternoon as well then flying out Sunday evening.  Self imposed timeline pressure due to work commitments, arrgh!

Age grouper M45 - 49, Bib #950.  I signed up early so not to myself out of it nor change my mind.  Peer pressure helped as well. LOL.

Hi All...

Just found this thread after a bit of googling... Thanks for all the advice for the race!

Me and my partner are flying over from the UK to do this as our first 70.3. We both did the Full IM in Switzerland last year which was a very wet and miserable day - so if this one is hot and sunny it will be the complete opposite.

We land on Wednesday so have a few days to get used to the heat (as much as we can). Lakes have only just opened for OW swim training here and I haven't had chance to take a dip yet. Hopefully all last years OW training will be enough.

Good luck to every-one! Have a great race!

my bike is in transport tomorrow. i was going to do it today, but ran out of time. nothing like waiting to the last minute. i still have one long run. i stressed fractured my foot last year and now when it rains it hurts. it's been raining for the last 7 days. needless to say i've babied it. i rather go full on race day then waste what i have.

my race dream is i get out of the water and can't find my bike. and the part where everyone has the same bike as me. what a nightmare. sorry boys thinking that u have a girly bike.

Well I worked out with free weights in the steam room this afternoon and got a little nauseous.  Must do that more often!

I also just realized (and why am I thinking of all these things now, and not weeks ago?) that I should start getting used to getting up earlier and exercising.  If my body is still on Colorado time, I'm going to be exerting myself, possibly, as early as 4 a.m.  So, I'm getting up at 5 tomorrow, 4:30 Monday, etc., and going to do as much as I can before work.  My gym doesn't open until 6:00, though

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend and Mother's Day!

I am so in the Ironman Zone I am running into things and forgetting stuff like picking up one of my kids!! I over did a 13.1 in April, so I have had a longer taper than I would have liked, but this week I am in PAIN. I mean, muscles I am barely useing are hurting (I havent run more than 60 min at a time in the last 2 weeks and my quads are sore.) And on my last 'long bike' (90 min) I was sure that I had spontaneously evolved NEW muscles in my butt because I felt aches in places I didn't even know existed!! Is anyone else noticing this problem? I found another thread talking about the taper phase.I am flying in Friday, leaving Monday. Staying at a Holiday Inn SunSpree. I am planning to go to the Race Director lecture/meeting? thing Friday at 4pm. Anyone else? I hope to drop by bike of early on Saturday, following The Cube's recommendations, then navigate my way back to my hotel for carbs, gatorade, sun, more carbs, more gatorade...you get the idea.

unfortunately won't get in until late Fri, so have to do the Sat check-in thing.  Staying until Thu, hopefully can still navigate Disney afterwards!!  Today was the last brick...28mi/5mk...2:10 total.

See you all there, good luck!

I have more muscle pain on tapers than usual.  It's as if they stay looser when in use longer on a more regular basis.  Last night I tweaked my back a little during the 7th inning stretch (actually stretching!) of a baseball game of all things and it is stiff today with shooting pain down my left leg.  I'm prone to this, though, and have had worse cases.  I think I'll be okay considering I am going to have to race walk because of my foot anyway.  I had been running on a bad foot, and have kind of asked for this.

Happy Mother's Day

Overcast would be nice...and help keep the heat down.  But FL weather is kind crazy.  Cover up your stuff in transition.  Plastic grocery sacks over the shoes, etc.

Leaving o-dark-thirty Friday morning.  See ya'll there!

I'm 1749 - in that same wave!  I am driving in on Friday early (we are making it a 2 day drive)  I did the sufferfest in the heat last year and for some reason are back again!  Right now we are looking at 93, it's 50 and rainy in VA so little to no chance of acclimating!  We have basically been tapering for the last 2 months while we fixed up our house to go on the market so it might not be pretty out there for me but it darn well will be fun!!  Going to Discovery Cove on Monday to swim with the dolphins!!
