So do you eat until you are stuffed generally? QOD! I generally do not eat until I'm stuffed, mainly because I know how miserable I am when I get to that point. I eat small, frequent meals and snack constantly throughout the day. Like you, Bill, I will make exceptions for the holidays ![]() |

I could feel it doing some popping when I was running then, but it never really hurt. It hasn't hurt since then it has just sort of been stiff. I head out for my 5 mile run this afternoon, I live on a hill, so I start running down hill and I can feel a popping again at the top of my knee cap, but this time it hurts. I couldn't run very far, I turned around and walked home. I already have a doctor appt scheduled for Dec. 2, I doubt I could get in before that. I have a HM on January 17th this is no time to be injured.Right now I'm sitting in my recliner with it propped up and with ice on it. Ann, so sorry to read this. Ice and rest are your friends. Your description sounds so familiar. Keeping toes and fingers crossed for a quick recovery. FYI, when you get to the point of running again, avoid hills for a while. It sounds like you may have some knowledge of this. I live on hill, there are hills all around. ![]() I have patella-femoral syndrome, aka chrondomylacia or "runner's knee." It is caused by a number of factors, the main one being lack of strength in the quads and tight hamstrings. Being female doesn't help. There is what is referred to as a "Q angle" which is the angle of the femur at the knee joint. Because women have wider pelvises there is more of an angle which creates more stress on the joint. Initially rest and ice are your friend. Mine flares up a couple times a year....the most recent being last month which is why I couldn't do my HM last weekend. My recovery routine is as follows: Once pain free, easy biking for a week. When ready to run, go for the treadmill or trail for the first couple weeks. My biggest mistake is I don't strength train. That's why the "disdain" challenge was perfect. I've been doing my PT and really think it helps. That may be more than you want to know and hopefully you just had an off day. But if it is "runner's knee" then prevention is your best strategy. Strengthen the quads, stretch the hamstrings, and go slow when ramping up mileage. Good advice that I don't always follow but should. |

I just need to decide if I want to try the Oly or the Sprint. I need to start swimming better if I want to do the Oly. |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() TOM. i know your situation well. and have had the same conversation(s) w my son. its hard as a parent to watch your child choose a road, yet....its their journey to take. ive finally gotten to the point (after all this time, and few wise words from BILL) where i have to let him make choices even if that means that he'll face difficult circumstances. youre a wise parent. so you know. but....micromanaging, SUCKS BIG TIME! stacieb Edited by skrtrnr 2009-11-25 8:14 AM |

I was reading that orthotics and shoes can help, but I just got new of both and now this happens, grrr. I just got up to walk across the room a few minutes ago and I could feel it popping. This is just depressing and frustrating right now. I am going to TRY VERY HARD to be patient and rest. I'm sure all of you know how that goes sometimes. |

This is just depressing and frustrating right now. I am going to TRY VERY HARD to be patient and rest. I'm sure all of you know how that goes sometimes. I call them "Cap'n Crunch" knees. You can hear me coming - especially walking down stairs. Really make an effort to rest. Patience is not one of my virtues so I completely understand how you feel. I used to make those rest days "abs and push-ups". At least I felt I was doing something....and I *hate* push-ups. I used to work with a trainer and she would make me do reverse push ups. Start in the up position (men's style, no crunchy knees on the floor) and slowly lower yourself to the floor. Gave me something to be ticked off at other than my aging crumbling knees. ![]() |
