Was out swimming today and for the first time had an injury sorta flare up. Roughly a year ago I broke my pinky finger and had my hand in a cast for a couple of weeks. Not sure if it was just the fact of a cold damp day and then the pressure of the swim but any suggestions on dealing with this?

They sell swim training gloves that may help take some of the pressure off of your finger.

[email protected] - 2010-01-03 1:51 PM took your advice and went out and rode this morning.  A chilly 37 degrees for the old man from Florida.  I retaped my Felt and posted some additional pictures.  I saved them on a website but when I go to try and copy and past the url it won't paste.  I don't know why?  Any ideas?

Felt a little sore this morning.  Still sore I think from my 13 mile run Saturday and the hill ride I did yesterday on the bike.  I ran an easy 5 miles.  Swim tonight.  I show 27 degrees at 3:30AM Tuesday morning for my bike workout!

I wouldn't use the gloves, they're made to increase resistance.  I'd get some athletic tape and tape your pinky/5th finger to your ring/4th finger.  If it's an extension injury, the tape will help some.

Edit.  I didn't look at the link above.  Paddles are okay if you have a good swim stroke.  Bad stroke + Paddles = jacked up shoulders.

After 2 weeks off, I finally got a workout in this morning. 3 miles on the treadmill. Kicked my butt. Sad, it's like I'm starting from scratch. Swim scheduled for this afternoon. Need to hit it hard and burn off the lbs. Seems as if alot of you are still getting your workouts in outside. Wish i could do it, but I can't take the cold. was 18 degree's outside this morning.

Take it one day at a time and build some momentum so you can say in two weeks I worked out every scheduled day!

Your Welcome.

I have the same Giant TCR. Do you have clip ons on it, or just ride it roadie? I put bars on mine but couldn't get it quite right, so I just took em off.
Also, I'm thinking of a Felt B2. I'm torm between the B2 and the Cervelo P3. Love both bikes. It seems from your posts that you really like your Felt!

Yes I have clip on tri bars for the Giant.  They have worked out nicely for me.  I may take them off now that I have a tri bike.  I road the Giant yesterday. Plan is to ride it once per week or so. I love the Felt. I think you will not go wrong with a Cervelo or Felt.  A matter of fit and preference.  You will get a wide variety of comments for each side.  I got a good deal on the Felt B12

This will be a chronic injury that will bother you on a consistent basis.  The good news is that a pinky finger really isn't necessary.  Just HTFU and chop the offending digit off.  You'll never miss it.

The Felts are sweet.

I went to my LBS to buy a DA frameset and some guy had just traded in a P2 frameset.  Got the P2 frameset for a steal and had money left over to buy a Hed 3 front and Jet Disc(both used).  So if it weren't for luck, I'd have a Felt.  But I like my Cervelo.

The plan is 16 weeks long (I'm in week 5 now) and the longest run is 20 miles.  The plan calls for doing that 3 times but I would loose one of these.   Here are the long runs for each week and what they would look like if I modified them.

Perhaps a 10-12 miler in your unknown spot?

I don't think you are going to suffer for a slight decrease in the long runs.  Looks pretty reasonable to me.

The question mark is the run I was supposed to do this week that I'm skipping.  I was going to try to get in 6 today but my foot still isn't feeling up to it.

Where is the pain in your foot?  Top, Bottom, toward toes, towrd ankle, etc.

Outside towards my little toe.   I think I just bruised my toes really bad.   I ran yesterday and it was a little sore but OK.  I'm going to go for my run tomorrow and see how it feels.

Well, I'm now down to race weight!  Managed to lose 6 lbs yesterday to what I think was food poisoning.  Lovely day.  This week will be a light week due to tapering and the fact that it is so freaking cold.  My 10 miler this weekend starts at 7am - supposed to be a balmy 13 degrees here!  BamaDC, you really need to come down and run this.  Misery loves company and all that.

Anyone else have a January race in the group?

Cool!  I'll be interested to read your AAR.

Nice bike Mr. Cooper.  I think I currently have the thread record for low temp rides.  Month ago, I was riding all week and the temp was around 12-15 deg.

Looks like I should be able to commute on the bike all week.  Swim/strength after work in the morning.  To be honest, I'd rather sleep.  But the Mother in Law is gone... that is kind of like sleep? Right.

Not a chance in Hell!  But thanks for the invite.  This past Sunday I canned an early run about 2 hours later(still mid 30) I go to the grocery store and there are 3 guys out biking.  I'm a wuss when it comes to cold.

I am the same way.

I was in Arizona last week visiting the grandparents and felt really cold at 38 degrees. I did a short run only because I was thinking of you waste deep in snow out running up hill both ways.

My next race is in the end of March.  Training through the winter is enough of a PITA.  I can't imagine racing now.
