Expert 819 In the Shadow of the Big House | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED Dragonflyer - 2010-01-03 12:52 PM Wet Suit--will anyone do? (I have a body glove-fit is pretty good-long sleeve) Preferences? \Wet suits are a real personal preference thing. I personally can't stand to have sleeves on mine. I feel very restricted. Some good friends of mine swear that they wouldn't wear anything but long sleeves though. Most important thing is to make sure that it fits and is made for swimming and not diving. Huge difference in the suit. Try some on if you are in the market to buy. If you can find the one you like in a store and it's not on sale, try looking for the same suit online. There are some discounts for BT members with some of the online stores. |

Master 1619 Hingham, Ma | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED I forgot to ask the group something. I had someone PM asking if they could join the group. I have no problem with it, but it's not just my group. I wanted to get feedback from you first. You can PM directly if you would like. Thanks. |

It's my SECOND 34th birthday. It's all because I have made so much fun of people that have to do the math to figure out how old they are. I thought I was 34 for about six months last year until I did the math..... |

Master 1619 Hingham, Ma | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED Ok. So it's settled. I have asked our newest member to post here and introduce himself. I was also reading that there are still some folks looking to join a group because there are very few groups still open. I feel that we have a very strong group, with others that can help and support as good as anyone, so I was going to open the group back up to add a few more who are really interested in joining a group. I don't think anyone should be left out because there aren't enough mentors. I think we are up to the challenge of added a couple of more people. I am going to PM Ron and see what he says. I will keep you posted. |

Member 39 | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - OPEN Hi, If there is still room in your group I would like to join! My name is Melissa- I am 38 (yes, the second 38 year old Melissa in the group). I have a five year old son (6 in Feb) and a 3 1/2 year old son. I am a special education teacher working full time with two kids- in my first year of teaching. My overall goal is to find time for myself- to get off the couch and move! I completed one sprint tri in 07' and have not moved since. During that time I was completing my Masters, working full time, and moving-twice. Time to focus on moving my body. I've managed to talk my sister-in-law into doing a spint tri in July-- it will be nice to have her to work out with. I think my biggest challange it finding the time- or better said- MAKING the time to work out. Looking for a pool... Looking forward to cheering you all on!! Regular 71 Melbourne | Subject: Hoping there'll be room for one more! Hi I'm Maree- hoping there will be room for one more in the programme! I have been dabbling in tri for a little while now- but haven't really got committed to more than a couple of sessions a week. I love the swimming and am well kitted out for ocean swimming with an orca wetsuit, but am a fairly unenthused runner (though that is changing thanks to a great coach in our local tri club) and have to date had a crummy bike. Hubby and I have just treated our selves to some new bikes (secondhand but good) and it is mid summer here in Melbourne, so I am all primed and ready to go! Late 09 I did a couple of 10K running races which I really enjoyed. My goal would be to do a sprint tri before the end of the season here (ends late March) and maybe do an ocean swim or two (mainly need to overcome the fear factor on that one!). I am married and my husband is keen on training too. We don't have kids, but have two spaniels, who both love running and swimming - so they keep us moving. We'd both probably like to lose around 5 - 8 kgs as well- cause we adore good food!! Anyway, hope there is still room at the inn...look forward to sharing the journey with you all. cheers maree |

If you are looking to compete for a podium spot, prolly too much to handle....this year! Next year?...who knows? If all you want to do is finish with a respectable time, I say you can do it. Just be realistic in your goals and how much time you are going to spend on running in addition to swimming and biking. Keep steady increases in time and mileage and by May you'll be looking for a full marathon to register for in the fall. |
