I rode the bike past Lake Monona this morning. Sun was shining, just barely a ripple on the water. Perfect conditions for a race. Probably wetsuit legal too .

It's been 2.5 years since I've done IMWI, but when I see the lake like that, with the sun just coming up, it still wells up a lot of emotions.

Best of luck training this summer.

In other related news I rode stagecoach last week and that rode is just slowly progressing more and more to nothing. I have some video of my ride on the road and I'll post to show later this week.

bcagle25 - 2012-03-23 12:20 PM Current condition of stagecoach

Yikes.  Same condition for the entire length of the road?  Fingers crossed the worker you see around 1:20-1:25 is surveying the road and scheduling resurfacing.

Is that the worst of the course?  Didn't I hear the road heading out to the loop was pretty rough as well?

Thank you for sharing!  Mind taking video like that for the entire length of the course?  I can watch while I ride on my trainer and pretend I'm there.

Type in simplystu IMWI course, he has video for both the bike and the run course. Scroll up the thread a few days and I posted a swim course preview here in the IMWI thread. I'll be making my own bike and run course preview in the coming months as well.

If anyone is interested, I and a couple of other people might be doing the IMWI Verona loop this weekend.  No plans are firm yet.  We are waiting to get a little closer to the weekend to see if we need to plan for summer or winter temps.  Start and finish will be Fireman's Park.  I'll update this as we get closer to the weekend.

After reading this I realized I need to stop watching election coverage on TV.

1 loop swim - huh?  Was just getting used to the idea of 2 loops but I guess the 1 loop is better?

I saw that too, I was kind of looking forward to kicking back and grabbing a burger in between loops.  Guess I won't get to now.

Just saw the email. I'm definitely in favor of a one loop swim. Think it will help create more separation in the water since the faster and slower swimmers won't have to evade each other on the 2nd lap.

Less congestion at turn 1 sounds nice.

But what will happen to the Moo turn?  So much to worry about.

Turn 1 will now be a bit less more congested, stronger swimmers will be rewarded for being strong and not have to fight traffic on the second lap and slow them down. Helps out the pros a lot as well, just curious to how the "mooing" will go this year!

I for one love the new swim course, less turns, less congestion and still a great view for spectators!

*Note: The whole reason they made these changes was based of feedback from us. Messick has it right with WTC and this brand should continue to improve.

I'm down with the swim changes, but I don't get the bike course changes. Not a big deal, but was there a lot of negative feedback about Rimrock Rd or the southern tip cut off by Messerschmidt Rd? I can't help but think there was 10x negative feedback regarding Stagecoach than all other course feedback combined.

I think it was because tons of cyclists ignored the stop sign on G while turning onto 92 while training. Its a good decent and they probably skipped the stop sign to keep speed. Also I know they are planning on construction on that area and maybe that can't be promised to have that road ready for the race. As for stagecoach, well that is the only way to get from Cross Plains to the three sisters.

That makes sense for G to 92. Hwy 14 would be a fine bypass for P and Stagecoach. Or someone could just, you know, repair it. No matter, I'll just do some training on Menomonee River Parkway to simulate it.

The email today reminded me that I still needed to reserve a campground spot for the race.

Just did it at Lake Kegonsa State Park for Thursday - Monday.  Hopefully it's a decent place.

1 loop swim will be fun. You will not have to swim into the morning sun twice, you still get the fabulous view of Monona terrace from the water, and the MOOOOOing will continue.

Safe training everyone

So where exactly is the bike course different - is it on the way out to the loop or on the loop?  Can any locals comment on whether the changes will make the course harder/easier/about the same?  I've been riding Wisconsin on the trainer and I am starting to get to know the course and it is making me nervous that they are playing with it.

Oh, and I like how the e-mail said "Are You Ready?"  Are you kidding me?  we still have a little over 5 months of training.  No I am not ready for the race now.  Maybe a half marathon or a sprint tri, not an ironman.  I will be ready in 5 months and 9 days
