aarthofe - 2013-03-26 7:44 AM I am pretty excited for this "warm"  weather this weekend low 50's  I have not gotten the bike outside yet so looking forward to Saturday.  Any advice what I should wear in the 50's when cycling?  I have never gone out unless it was 60's, and that has to change.  But the good news is I feel Spring coming!  I hope everyone's training is going good, I am LOVING it

Personally I'd wear tri shorts and a long sleeve jersey, and socks. But I get hot easy. I might pack my gloves with me just in case. Enjoy the ride!

The "rule" I have always heard is "Cover your knees under 60 degrees" So you may want to go go with tights over shorts.  Err on side of being warm, you can always take them off and put in jersey pocket.

Pretty quite in here folks! Hows everyones training going? Down here in Sterling, IL the snow is almost all gone and the roads are nice and clear. I just started my Base 1 phase of training this past week for the next few weeks. Did a 2 hour run yesterday. Been fighting a nasty cold this week which slowed me down and forced me to take two days off to recover. Got in over 15 miles in zone 2 though and my knees and legs are not to sore this morning. I have a 2-3 hour ride looking me in the face for today after church. 20-30 mph winds out of the NNW they are saying so I'll be riding into that for the first hour or so. That way I should have an excellent tail wind coming home. Picked up my new race wheels yesterday from my lbs here in town and took them for a short spin.

Depending on the weather the next couple weeks I might try and get up to Madison area two weeks from now and ride the course on a Saturday. Hows the snow melt going up there? Anyways I hope everyone is doing good!

Roads are totally clear on the course, but the shoulders still have a bit of snow and a lot of sand and grit from the winter.  I am starting to see more and more people on the course though....won't be long and my bike will come off the trainer!

In Fitchburg with my parents for Easter (Happy Easter!) and did my long run yesterday on the SW commuter trail to Camp Randall and back, including a few minutes on the run course on Monroe street. Kinda neat! Hopefully warmer on race day, though. First outdoor ride was Friday at home (Chi area) and it was nice - no traffic on the trainer, though. Planning to come to Madison/Fitchburg the third weekend in May to ride the course. Can't wait!

Hello, everyone:

Feeling good about running a titch over twelve miles this morning.  My longest run since last fall.   I think I am finally getting past my neuroma issues in my right foot.  Thank goodness!   Yesterday was a 2.25 hour spin on the trainer after a 1.5 mile swim.  Watched "Lincoln" to make the time pass.  It was a pretty good movie.  Generally I don't care for Spielberg movies, but this is an exception.  Next week I think I will spin to "Argo."

Snow is finally melting in MN.  Sidewalks are 98% clear.  Still a bit cold for outside cycling, and the roads have not been swept yet.  Probably a few more weeks until I will start riding outside.

Still frustrated with my foot issues,  I am starting to run 1.5 miles on the threadmill and still experiencing disconfort but  only time will tell.  My riding is going well  an as usual my swiming  is goign ok.   we have almost 6 months left and all I can do is wait and see.

I am going to try and do a one loop this weekend. This will be the first outdoor ride since last July! I am not going to push it and just see how it feels.

I've been lurking here gleaning info because I want to volunteer this year and participate next. Thanks for letting us know the volunteer page was open, Phil. I'm overwhelmed by how many choices there are! Anyone who's volunteered in the past have recommendations for where best to volunteer to get a sense of the event? Looks like some of the more popular spots are already taken.

I think there are lots of good opportunities--body marking, the women's T1 or T2 tent and any of the run course will give you a good idea of the day.  If you are willing, being a catcher at the end of the night can be a lot fun!

Thanks, Suzy. I'd thought body marking would be fun but the spots were all filled. I went ahead and signed up for gear bag - 7:30 to 11:00, women's change tent 1:30-6:00 and finish line catcher from 8:00-11:45. Yippee!!

Tony!!! I KNOW you'll make it to the finish line. I'm selfishly hoping you make it there in over 13 hours so I could maybe be your "catcher". Keep training well and enjoy the journey!

Hey, everyone:

Managed a slow 14.25 mile run today.  Yesterday was two hours on the Kinetic.  I am seriously about to go insane on that trainer.  Intended to go 2.5 hours but it was all I could do to make it to two hours.  I am so going crazy with boredom on that thing.  Please, sun and warmth (and street sweepers) come to my rescue!  Swimming is going great.   Love, love, love swim workouts!

How is everyone else doing?  Is it normal to feel behind the curve on the bike program at this stage?  I know I will have solid long rides this summer but so far it's mostly hour long spin sessions twice a week in the mornings.

. Keep thinking the positive of how much better you are getting. And iPods are a blessing! I love riding on the "drainer" with my playlist cranked to the hilt (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Candlebox, and many, many more). Got in a 2 hour drainer today with a 2 hour BRICK. I be sore right now. Remember, keep thinking positive and happy training!

Got in 46 miles Friday afternoon on some windy/hilly terrain here on the bike in 2:30 in zone 2. Felt good to go that long. Also Sunday afternoon I got in a hair under 16 miles in two hours all in zone 2. Felt awesome to run in shorts and a tee shirt outside!

Looks like you folks up north might be getting one last snow storm Thursday now. Hope it stays up there and we don't get any around me!

Not a problem - it's better to train in these crappy conditions and be used to it.  BRING IT ON!
