Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED I owe a review on the waterproof ipod shuffle to a few people, but I will give a short review of other swimming music players for those not on the previous thread. Ipod shuffle by Waterfi - http://waterfi.com/?gclid=CLGI_ojBubQCFcsWMgodeWwAOQ (can get on amazon) 5 Star rating ***** Easy to use and hook up, no water muffling (awesome sound) the sound in the earphones and I could even dive in the water without any issues. It was also very easy to adjust the volume and tracks while in the water. I clipped on my goggles and stuffed the extra cord in my cap. I also made sure the cap covered the earphones. This is an apple product and is linked up to itunes for music. 2 year warranty. Really, really small and compact. Easy to clip to the goggles. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this product. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I bought black just because I didn't want it standing out. Finis MP3 3.5 star rating Finish has pretty good sound. The device sits on your jawbone and conducts the sounds through your bones (I think). There are no earphones for this one. It is a good product, but fairly bulky and you cannot dive it with. I assume because of how it sits outside the cap flipturns would move them around as well. This does not link up to Itunes (at least the older one does not), you have to copy MP3 songs onto it. If you are a person that like to do your thing and stay under the radar, this product is not for you, cuz it is bright and will bring questions. Speedo MP3 3 star rating The sound is definitely muffled by the water in the earphones. Would definitely need different earphones for this device. The product is a little bulky. It sits on the back of your goggles. This does not link up to Itunes (at least the older one does not), you have to copy MP3 songs onto it. |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED 2013 goals: - Lose more weight - Get all my training in ... work is going to make this difficult come February, my 50 hr weeks my increase significantly ... - Get my butt in the pool more and stay motivated ... I do much better with swimming in the summer, either at lakes or 50 meter outdoor pools - Get stronger and get healthy - Injury-free season I am purposely not being specific so that I don't obsess over it. I have enough stress in my like with a new job, than worrying about hitting everything spot on all the time. If there is something I have learned it that you have to listen to your body, get the training in and there are going to be some good sessions, some bad ones, some awesome ones and some horrific ones that make you question your goals. Kelly has certainly taught me about trying to keep things in perspective! Thank you |

Extreme Veteran 418 Texas | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED rizer22 - 2012-12-26 7:51 PM So this Whole30 discussion we are having, prompted me to reach out to Whole30. The focus of One of the non profits I am involved with, is fitness, wellness and nutrition, incorporated with youth sports, to our surrounding communities, with a large focus on underprivileged children. We have received a $2,000 grant from the local savings bank with the requirement being we offer nutrition education to adults. A couple questions: A Whole30 Seminar, is a one day, 9am to 5pm program, with one hour lunch break, and costs $100 per person. A 40 person minimum is required, costing $4,000 for the seminar. After the grant, our balance would be $2,000. So my questions are: 1. Would you pay $50 (1/2 off the full price) to attend this? 2. Do you feel this would be a solid program to offer to the public? 3. Do you feel enough people would actually register for this at that price point? I would attend in a NY minute. People have been begging for this seminar. I don't know where you live, but I am sure you'd have takers! |

Extreme Veteran 418 Texas | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED ccmpsyd - 2012-12-26 9:35 PM Be kind - but why are grains not good? Why is beer not good? Beer is alcohol of which there are no redeeming qualities. Sorry! According to the book, alcohol is addictive; Alcohol inhibits our inhibitory mechanisms meaning when you are under the influence you have a tendency to make bad decisions (like food wise); Alcohol consumption interferes with glucose function in the body and with the actions of regulatory hormones like insulin and glucagon, disturbing blood sugar levels; Alcohol directly promotes intestinal permeability and overgrowth of gut bacteria, contributing to leaky gut and inflammation. There are some other things listed in the book, but you get the picture. Grains - There is a lot about the reasons behind no grains. That's why I love the book! It gives you all the sciency things in terms you can understand. One of the things that stands out is "when you consume grains - whole or refined - you expose your body to potentially problematic proteins. This triggers localized inflammation in the gut, which (in the presence of intestinal permeability--an all too common condition) cascades into systemic inflammation, provoking an often silent immune response elsewhere in the body. The inflammatory effects can show up everywhere, as anything, allergies, arthritis, asthma, autoimmune diseases", and a whole list that I am not going to type here. After 30 days they tell you to add grains (not alcohol) back into your diet to see what affect it has on your body.

I'm a trial and error proponent. Have done balance, keto, Weight Watchers, etc, etc, etc. Fat guys will try anything. Find a dietary set up that one works for your body goals and two is sustainable over a whatever period of time. Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED Thanks for the review Carrie, you did a nice job. I noticed you bought the one from Waterfi, did you research and determine that was the best one? BT has Audioflood advertised, so I just assumed that was the only one that was waterproof. I looked at both websites, and they both claim to waterproof better than others. Waterfi seems to have a dual layer option which sounds good. Before I spend a lot of time researching I was wondering if you already went through all of that. |

That means my 8 mile run will be on the treadmill. Argggh. Carrie - I noticed you mentioned Disney Goofy in 2014. I am going to do the 1/2 there in a couple of weeks. Not sure if you are going to be down this year? I am considering doing the full marathon at Disney next year for my first marathon. Would be nice to introduce myself in person if we are both down there in 2014. |

I get really hungry swimming too! ProBar is not approved on Whole30. Lara bars (without peanuts) or the recipe to make your own would be a good option. Or maybe some almonds. I'm looking for good snack ideas too. People at work look at me funny when I eat raw broccoli. I need some other items that are filling besides eating nuts all the time. |

Expert 1121 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED X2 I would probably pay the full $100 Have you done any seminars like this before? Were they successful, did it fill up? Well, we are two years young, and have done some great things for kids. We actually tried to offer a healthy "hands on" cooking class for adults, with local chefs, FREE OF CHARGE, and we got 3 people to sign up. Who wouldn't want to be part of that. So we had to cancel. I think that's the area I live in. Northeastern, CT is very rural. And some areas are depressed. My concern with offering the Whole30 at $50, which again is half off, may not draw enough in this area. I am certain some people would drive30-60 minutes to attend, but those are not the areas we awant to serve, we want to serve the local community, within 15 miles. I lost 25 lbs. using their plan. The book address this and talks up front about the controversy on this issue, but it makes some great points. If you are eating those foods that could be causing health issues (not weight) then eliminate them for 30 days and reintroduce them back into your diet to see the effects they have healthy-wise. This plan is not so much about weight loss as it is to heal the body. Weight loss is a benefit. |

What about almond butter? Anyone willing to share recipes or meal plan for a week? I need all the help I can get. Is it necessary to have the shopping guide, etc..?? Gonna spend the rest of this week getting geared up for the training and the eating plans.... excited!!!!! Yes, sweet potatoes are DEFINITELY ok especially for athletes. Almond butter, too, as long as there is no additives. I will help all I can with recipes and meal plans. You can pull the shopping guide off their website. It is just helpful. |
