lkagop - 2008-01-09 10:15 PM Goals for this coming week beginning Monday: 1) Walk w/ intermittent running: 30 minutes, 5 days a week 2) Bike: 20 minutes, 1 day a week 3) Strength training (free weights, legs, abs): 3 days a week 4) Yoga: 3 days a week I'm a little embarrassed that I'm not doing all of the activities like you awesome go-getters yet, but I have to start somewhere... Lora

Lora,

Any chance we could get a little swimmy swim in there?  Even if its just getting in the water and floating... its a start.

I was gone to Vegas for work since Sunday, and coming back to the forum to see a challenge is exactly what I need. I need to pay for my 4 days of debauchery.

My goals for this coming week:

  1. Swim: 2 X 3000 meters  = 6000 meters
  2. Bike: 2 X 15 miles = 30 miles
  3. Run: 3 x 3 miles = 9 miles
  4. Yoga: 1 hour

Most important - No Alcohol for the week! I need to detox.

I <3 debauchery!  YAY for you!  But let's get back to WORK!  No bikini shots!

Oh and one more thing...

The 10% rule is only for those of you that hit 100% to goal or more.  The following week you MUST increase your goal by AT LEAST 10% to get the 100 bonus points...

denny.l - 2008-01-09 8:27 AM Outstanding! That video makes me want to share how I plan to K(m)YOA. Running is my challenge this year so Starting next week: Run 6 miles (three x 2) Swim 2x Bike 2x I'm not putting any requirements on the bike and swim distance because of time constraints. (there is that excuse again) As much as I'm committed to training for triathlon, I'm choosing to make my son my number one priority. SO..there it is guys! Hey Alan, Way to go on the trip to the pool this morning. Make the choice to have an outstanding day! Les

Can you put some time or distance goals on that so that I can give you percentage points. Just something that you can do... even if its only 10-15 minutes.

Sure Robyn, I want percentage points!

I'll set a goal of 30 minutes per workout on swim and bike.

This sounds fun.
Les

I'm going to add 2x 20 min yoga. I have not been stretching like I should. Thanks for the example Lisa.

So,
Here is my goal again all together:
run 3x/20min
bike 2x/30min
swim 2x/30min
yoga 2x/20min

Have a great day everyone!

Hi, Robyn.

My problem right now is access. I'm going to take the next competitive swim class as the Y (as a non-member) where I'll easily get in 45 minutes, twice a week. Hopefully, they'll be starting that any week now. However, I'll be at a hotel this weekend and plan to hit the pool then. Unfortunately, it can't count since it's before Monday, but at least I'LL know I got it in.

Thanks for the encouragement, Robyn!

The trick is to just start!!!  And you already did that part....  You've got a good week going and will have a great week next week when the challenge starts.

Thanks, Bennet. I appreciate your kind words!

Hi, Les.

You've got a really great plan going. I don't know about you, but putting these goals in print for others to see (and not winning the challenge) is motivating me already. Here's to a successful next week!

Thanks Lora,

It looks like you've come up with some great goals. I hope your swimming lessons start soon. 2 times a week will be great. You should really learn a lot and get some quality training too.

I hope I can get my running to improve. I got shin splints last year and I'm still being cautious. I do OK on the treadmill but I have a much more difficult time crosscountry. I ran on base (I work on an Air Force base, but I'm not military) and there are some nice grassy places to run. I just can't get a breathing pattern or pace to work without getting up to 80% PRE. I just need to approach it like I did my swimming last year. Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve running?

I got my zoomer fins last night. BT folks get a 20% discount. I'll work on those TI drills. You are right Robyn, the drills are pretty awkward and hard for me. I feel pretty uncoordinated but the lessons which mostly consisted of learning and practicing them and I can tell to a certain extent when I'm swimming whether I'm approximating a better form. The fins will allow me to do the drills. I still can't stay balanced in the water well enough to do the drills for more than a short time without the fins.

I haven't gotten my TI stuff yet, but are those zoomer fins important for that? Suppose I better get back online and do some more shopping.

...be a shame if Robyn had to get in her bikini just because I didn't have any zoomers to get my work done!!

I don't know.... but I won't need to worry about it since my team is going to kick butt.  I haven't even put my team together yet, but they are going to kick butt.  (I am actually going to randomly divide up my whole mentor group into sub-teams as soon as everyone gets their goals posted.)

so far I have:

denny.l

mifiremedic

gator416

lkagop

shanaspree

ldubbe

azelizabeth

gator22 - from Jesswah's group

Jesswah, herself, team captain of her own group

erjellum, former mentee and future team captain

Kazho, former mentee and future team captain

Who else from jesswah's group is in?  Can we get them to post here so that I know who is participating?

Hi Katie, Glad you are back, we missed you!!! Hello gang, I did get my little 20 minute run in today, even though I am worn out. Tested all the hose on the BRT ( Big Red Truck...it's a very technical term...I don't know if you civilians would understand...LOL) then worked a three car pile up. ( Nothing near what happened in Florida yestreday...but still...). Plus all the other normal station work, and regualer calls.

I had to post this since I really can't tell anyone else because noone else really gives a crap but those who know what it's like.

At Thanksgiving my run consisted of about 15-20 min, doing about 2 min running and then 1 minute walk. Today I celebrated losing 25 pounds...AND...did my 3 miles in 26:15...first time I've every broken a 9 min/mile average. The best part was I felt good and didn't feel like I was having to push or strain to do it. Now, I know this may not sound like a lot to some of the runners in the bunch but to this FORMER fat it is pretty important to me. So those of you working your way through the walk/run, hang in there because it does eventually get better.

...and now, back in the pool in the morning! Yeah!!!!

Ok... my goals for this coming week (I believe this begins Monday):

swim 1 x week for 30 minutes

Run: 3 x week 3 miles each (some walking in between running)

Bike: 1 x week spin class (unless I buy my bike this weekend)

Strength training: 2 x week DVD Ripped to the Core (don't laugh...it is awesome)

I hope to go bike shopping this weekend... I also am going to take a look at a Trek 1500 on craig's list.

Thanks for the support... I need it!

Hey Les...what do you have for a trainer that you talk about in your workout today...i've read a little about those...do they actually have adjustable tension....some almost seemed like they were fluid enough that the wheel keeps spinning so you "coast" like out on the road...is that true???

Maybe you need to just list off all your toys...zoomers...trainer...anything else that's going to be useful????

One more thing... I took your advice and rested and got rid of my cold. Now I feel like a slug because I can't get back in the swing of things. So... I wanted to set a weekend goal to the group for accountability:

2 X 3 mile runs

Thanks,

I think we should establish a goal for Rueben that he is required to post hourly during the evenings to make sure he isn't 'throwing em' back' down at the pub!!!!

I agree! Let's hear it Rueben! Or maybe they have wireless at the pub?

I'm glad you are feeling better Elizabeth. Do you want us to check your log Sat and Sun?

Alan- If you look at my album, the trainer that I have is pretty old! It is in the pictures of the Maz, my road bike. The Athletic Director at my school is a cyclist, and used to do triathlon too. He has been quite a bit of help and gave me the trainer in the picture. It is different from most, and to get more resistance I use different gears. There are some really high tech trainers out there. I got a dvd from netflix that has three different spin classes and it gives a good workout. I hope that I get a Spinervals dvd for my birthday. Then I can send this one back to netflix and get a real movie! The AD has some aerobars that he is going to give me too. That and the zoomers are about it! Did you see the post with the discount code for the fins?

If anyone uses spinervals, do you have a suggestion for a good title?
