Can we talk about spectators? (It will help increase your page count, right?)  My hubbie and I are going to try to come cheer everyone on during the evening hours (after 8pm).    Where do you think the best spectator spots will be, aside from the finish line?

And, are there any good places along the route where we could hang out at restaraunts/coffee shops and just cheer on the runners?

I figured you guys may have scoped this out for family and friends, so I thought I would ask!

Thanks and Good luck to all of you!!!

The waterway you will see everyone coming and going. There are some restaurants on the waterway as well. The finish on market street has lots of shops and restaurants (and bars) and the woodlands mall is a short walk across the street from market street (mall is just east) and the waterway (mall is north). I should be one of the best spectator friendly races in the world if you ask me.

The only drawback is it's prom night, so I have a feeling most of the restaurants will be crowded - you may want to try to make a reservation. One place I might sit if I were spectating is Landrys - sit outside and you are right on the run course.

dodgersmom - 2011-05-18 9:58 PM OK, trying not to freakout here.

Decided to be proactive and change out the battery in my 310XT strap.  No problem.  4 little screws out.  Old battery out.  (was out for several hours).  New battery in.  Battery is in the right way (+ side up). Screws are tightened down.  NO HR READING AT ALL.  Repeated this process several times.  Tried re-pairing the HRM, soft reset and hard reset and still nothing.  Even put the old battery (which worked fine BTW - I was tying to be proactive) and still nothing.

I trained with HR and it is critical that I have this during the race.  What could be going on?  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Ok, under settings - general - accessories - hit rescan to find your HR monitor - the 305 manual says also don't be near any interference (electrical) - hope that helps

This sounds right.  I had to do this when I changed out straps a while back.  I think the unit basically has to reinterface with the monitor to recognize it.

Hi Dodgersmom, if you can't get it fixed, I use a Forerunner 305 that I can fedex to your hotel for Friday morning delivery (not sure if the strap works for 310XT, but I can send both the strap and the watch so you can use them instead).  I'm not in the race (driving in Friday night from San Antonio to volunteer), so I really don't need it over the next week and am happy to help.  You can just send it back to me after the race.  Just PM me with the hotel address if you want to do that...fedex deadline is 4 pm in my office so just let me know by then...John

It is stuff like this that makes BT such an awesome community!  Thank you so much for you offer.  I actually called Garmin this morning on the drive down and they are Fed Exing a new unit o my hotel tomorrow.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your offer.  Where will you be volunteering? I want to be sure to stop and thank you for the offer!

Yeah, there was a CRAZY line when i left at 2:00.  They really should keep check-in open until 7:00 or 8:00pm rather then 4:00 -- that's kinda early.

Apparently 2854 is under construction. As I was driving into town on 2854, they were working on the roads. They were working on the side opposite of the lane well be in but I could see a lot of loose gravel. AND. There was one part of the road in our lane that looks like they just took a chunk out of. I'm not an engineer or in constrction, so idk what it's called, but it literally looked like the took out about 10-20 yds of the top layer of the road...hope they fix that by tomorrow

I had lunch at potbelly's as well..probably around 11:45ish till shortly after 12:00. Guess it was the popular place to eat this afternoon.

Anybody know where exactly in the Marriot the meeting is...I asume in one of the ball rooms on the ground floor. I also would guess there will be signs.

I also got autograph from Chri as well, I was suprised there was not a longer line. Got it around 12:30 and there was one person in front of me. Nice guy, we talked about the CUTTERS shirt I was wearing back from my college days.

See yall later this evening at the meeting.

Quick question about the gear bags.  I think I remember somewhere it saying that we are to put our helmet in the bike gear bag as well as shoes?  Seems like alot of gear for such a small bag.  Why couldn't I just clip my helmet to my bike like every other transitioned race I have been in?

Grrr, all this talk about the heat, I didn't even bring my wetsuit, and now it's looking like it will be a wetsuit swim after all. 76.7 degrees today and rain forecasted for tomorrow.Too bad I'm not due for a new suit or I'd be tempted to pick one up...but I love the one I already own....

I've been lurking on this thread for months and just thought I'd post a quick GOOD LUCK to everyone racing on Saturday!!!!

I'm excited about this event and I'm not even racing.  I'll be at Aid Station #9 on the run course with Hawaiian garb on handing out water and cheering with a cowbell!!!!  :-)

Don't worry.  Everything will fit in there just fine.

Last minute questions ...

1 - was anyone able to confirm whether we will have an opportunity to search for our special needs bags (i.e. will they make the box of special needs back available post race).  I know they have in the past, but I wanted to see if anyone has gotten clarification

2 - does anyone know the distance into the swim the turnaround is and the turn into the canal?

Good luck to everyone!!
