Champion 10618 | Subject: RE: GrooveTime!group - CLOSED!!! STEVE!!!! YO!! Big-time mojo to you today! I wnated to do this earlier, but we had computer kerfuffles this morning, and then we wnet off house-scanning. Just got back, and you must be out on the bike course --- GOTTA be out on the bike course, as it's 2:57 there. (I thought L.V. was mountain time, but it looks to be just west of the time zone boundary.) So, swim started at 1:00 your time, and I figure you were 40:23 for that....and a 4:46 T1.....you should be about 2/3 done with the bike?? Uh, having fun with those winds? Wow. Tough forecast for them, but great for the temperature. I'm hoarding all the bad karma between us, what with the computer, the house strikeouts, and my first head-cold in about 15 months. (You're welcome! ) |

Champion 10618 | Subject: RE: GrooveTime!group - CLOSED!!! TRACEY - Got it yet?? Cool beans! As for your decision to forego clipless for now, I think it's a good one. This is one of those cases where discretion could well be the better part of valor, and you're one of about 129,000 cyclists who have gone the way you are choosing. It has worked for them, and it will work for you! Gonna post photos of it? |

Okay, well since you asked, I don't feel like such a geek posting photos. Apparently my photo files are too large to attach and I can't figure out how to reduce them... bummer. |

Champion 10618 | Subject: RE: GrooveTime!group - CLOSED!!! STEVE - And....???? "5:50 ish" ---- sounds to me that you managed to sneak a run in there while you were at it! And "5:50 ish", on a hilly course on a very windy day, suggests to me that you did NOT experience a melt-down (pain-down?) on the run - or else you would've been well over 6 hours. Sooooooo, how are your legs feeling today? Are you upright and mobile? feeling good about the day, and your performance, and just getting your first half-iron behind you? I went to the results page, but nothing is up yet. How rude! I HATE when that happens! I initially got ticked at them, but then did the math and realized that with a 1pm start there would still be people finishing at 9pm, and then there are all the adjustments and pnalties to consider, and then it would be their bedtime.........so I decided to be generous towards them and patient with myself, and wait. Waiting I am, then! For esults, and for word from you about about how you're feeling. But i don't think it's too early to venture a "congratulations!" in your general direction! |

Champion 10618 | Subject: RE: GrooveTime!group - CLOSED!!! SHAUN - Thanks for the cube stuff -- which, along with Mandy's eyelash post, I had missed seeing before. I understand the basic concepts of cubed and squared numbers, it's just I can't figure out how Louis Tharp was applying it. At one point last year I emailed him about some concept I didn't fully understand, and he responded back with an understandable answer. maybe I ought to try it again. If the golfball visualization doesn't work for you, then whenver you sense your knees dropping and being the activators of your kick, try "swimming downhill" -- that is, lean on your chest a bit more, and this should raise your tokhis. At this point, rear-end closer to the surface, you might find it easier to kick more from the hips. Let me know if that helps at all. |

Champion 10618 | Subject: RE: GrooveTime!group - CLOSED!!! MANDY - Nice new photo, too! Who's the muttski? And what kind is he/she/it? It's tough to tell. (A border collie cross, maybe?) Did you comment at some point about our dog? That's Luna, who in July will be 13. She's a real sweetheart, a gentle, quiet, attentive old thing. We could hardly have done better! The photo of her leaping off the deck is maybe from when she was 7 or 8; the one in the family photo is from Dec. '08, I think. She's doing really well for a medium-sized hound, and we just hope that she keeps on ticking! |

Master 1675 Kitchener | Subject: RE: GrooveTime!group - CLOSED!!! Just finished up my training for WEEK 3 of my plan! Kind of excited that I am still feeling good and refreshed after workouts. Changed up the plan a bit to help with upcoming bike tour and my bum r. leg - so heavy on the cycling and light on the running. Happy to report that I seem to have my running legs back. On Wed did a run/walk combo outside with mostly walking; today did a run/walk combo with equal run/walk. Right leg and knee is feeling sound, and overall felt good. Next week is recovery week which is convenient for me to start back at the running again. Next week they are calling for 20-22* and sunshine on my biking days - YEAH!!!!!!!! Going to get a couple of long, outdoor rides in PLUS we are going hiking at Frontenac (north of Kingston) for a couple of days on the weekend. Haven't decided if we are going to backpack in and camp or just do a couple of day hikes. Hope everyone is having a great weekend. |

Hi Anne... have fun at Frontenac... we used to hike there a lot and one year did the 'Frontenac Challenge' where you hike all of the trails between Sept 1st and Oct 31, collecting info on each trail (the year we did it they placed signs with reptile names along the trails) and at the end they had a BBQ and we all got t-shirts. I won a raffle and got a sweatshirt as well. Before I got into tris and when we lived a bit closer I also used to run the trails. Have never done any camping there, my hubby has tried to talk me into doing some winter camping but I'm not really interested in that. |

He is a great big snuggly sweet guy (not into running though, more of a supporter). He greeted me with my friend Beth (who very kindly got him from the house and then picked me up on my 16 mile point to point) and she snapped the picture. I love it, so much that I had to change my profile picture! Yes, I did ask about your pup (they are always pups, no matter how old!) She sounds awesome - flop her ears for me! I am not as high in volume of mileage/week as I would like, but I felt good enough on this run (with a few more long runs to go) to feel OK about going for the 26.2 (providing that calf hangs in there) - my goals are slightly adjusted - pie in the sky goal is now to PR (<4:18) and get as close to 4hr as I can. OR, just finish it, whatever. Cheers, Mandy |

Have never done any camping there, my hubby has tried to talk me into doing some winter camping but I'm not really interested in that. Thanks Cathy. We love Frontenac and have hiked and canoed there for a few years. We were there once in September when we met alot of people doing the Challenge and thought that was pretty cool. Congratulations on completing it. Someday, when Ken is retired, we would like to attempt it. Once we camped there in November a few years ago when there was a lunar eclipse. Pretty neat. Although we love to be outdoors in the winter, it convinced us that winter camping is not something we plan on getting into. The water froze in the water filter and the titanium forks and spoons froze to everything they touched. Maybe we just need the right gear, because we have built a quincey hut and slept and cooked in it and loved it. Hope all is well with you. |

So, here I am, pecking away for a while until I feel more sleepy and less snuffly. Onwards! |

Isn't it a small world that your husband and Tracey's husband are siamese twins separated at birth! Tracey just told us last week that he enjoys winter hiking in the White Mountains, which is to New England hiking what winter camping in Frontenac is to eastern Ontario camping. Hard-core guys the two of you selected! Are you all set for the phenomenal weather soon to come? Anne mentioned what she is getting in Kitchener, and up in our neck of the woods it's similar. Go to www.weather.ca and fest your eyes on the 14-day chart. WOW!!!! |

Hat trick! Cool beans! And then there is the sweetly-placed recovery week, which couldn't come at a better time.....but that's usually the case with recovery weeks, huh? Now, don't go messin' it all up with hiking too far and too long, eh? Maybe you ought to camp! The temps next weekend are highs of 22 and 23, and sunny both days. 22 and 23.....is that about 75 or so? Oo-la-la! |

Champion 10618 | Subject: RE: GrooveTime!group - CLOSED!!! M - Good purchases! If the GU don't sit with you, try other brands as not all gels are created equally. Also, some people take a while to get acclimated to taste and texture. If you find GU too thick, then here's what I think of as the continuum, from thickest to thinnest: PowerGel, Clif, GU, Hammer, CarbBoom!, AccelGel. But some people like thick, and I hope that's you as that is what is conveniently located at your LBS (local bike shop). Bon apetit! I STILL see bike shops as foreign countries, so don't feel bad! If I can manage to keep my eyes on clothing and nutritionals, say, I'm okay. But once I let my eye stray to any mecahnical or electronic components, i break out in a cold sweat and my heart starts palpitating. And if I venture back into the mechanics' area to see what they're doing, then it's all over for me....... Bike guys are generally great souls, and I'm glad yours fit that description. Nicely done on what you are calling "baby steps", but which seem to me much bigger than you're giving them credit for! |
