Great!  A buddy from work wants me to do a cyclocross race with him in a couple weeks.  I've tried really hard to not get involved in this sport.  I don't need to become infatuated with another sport and end up buying another bike and gear!  Should be interseting though.  I'm curious to try a race so I can see what all the hype is about.

Sweet.  That always looked fun to me.  I hear it's great OS training to improve your cycling next year also.

lol!!! My friends constantly bug me to do this. Most races are in really cold weather here and I, like you, don't want another expense or time consumer. The good news is you can use your MTB for now.

Ok, I need some varying points of view my friends.  Brian, step out of the usual Jay/Brian shoes for this one, because I know what that answer is already! Wink.

I just bought that Hed PT wheel.  I'm buying a B12 this month.  It comes w/ 40mm rims stock.  If it can be done, does it make sense to have the PT swapped over to the Felt rims?  I am going to have to sell my Neuvations w/ my Kestrel because it aint gots no other shoez.  So I either 1)swap the PT, and see if Wheelbuilder will either take the C2 rim back or try and sell it online 2)ride w/ the Hed rear and Felt front and look kinda retarded or 3)pony up the scratch for the matching Hed front wheel. and let the TTR3 wheels go to waste.  What says you?

why can't you sell the TTR wheels either by themselves or with the Kestrel? Keep the Neuvations and buy a matching Hed front?

Oh.... and I would keep the PT in the Hed wheel and rock it like you stole it. I've heard they are pretty durable wheels. You could race/train on those all day, and keep the ttr's or neuvations as back ups.

and if you must ....you can ride the ttr or neuvation front till you can buy a new Hed front. What's the hurry?

I guess I could, but I wanted to keep them to train on.  I'd like a little more rim than the C2 and Neuvation have, but I'm not interested in spending a bunch more cash for wheels if I don't have to.  I can probably get $250 out of the Neuvations, I dunno what the TTRs would be worth to someone.

True, a backup set is definitely a good idea.

don't spend any more $$$ just yet then. Ride with the Hed rear and ttr or neuvation front for now. You can always buy another Hed later

I say suck it up big spender!  Buy the matching front wheel.  Put the new wheels on the Kestrel and keep the Neuvations for training.

On positive note, I broke a new 100 yard personal best today.  I was running my 9 year old through some drills and decided to do a 100 yard AO just for kicks at the end.  Well, I'm glad I did.  New PR 1:19:26!  Damn, it feels good to finally see some results from training.  Its been too long!

Sounds like you and I are ready to race -- you do 2 lengths to my one and we'll be equally rated!!!

Congrats on the PR

Haha...thanks.

I've been working a lot lately on kick drills and backstroke.  Funny thing is I feel that my hips and lower extremities are staying higher in the water as a result.  My long term goal is to get near a 1 minute 100.  I have my work cut out for me!

Bought some new wheels today.  Well, new to me.  I found a pair of gently used Flash-Point 60s for a pretty good price.  Since these are basically the same wheels as the new Sram S60s, I figure this is a fair compromise.  This will allow me to swap my Mavic Ksryium Elites over to my road bike.

Well..........

the Trek test ride went great! The Push shock is INCREDIBLE!!!! I can't believe what a difference in peddle efficiency that made. It felt almost as good as the 29er I rode a couple weeks ago with the added cushy comfort. Unfortunately, it cracked again. I had to really crank on the linkage to open it up and get the swingarm on the bearing surface. I think it was welded too narrow and put too much stress on the weld. I think now that it's winter I'm going to break down the whole bike and send it out so it can be re-welded with the linkage on the bearing surfaces. That way they know the right width it should be.

Hey guys...long time no talk. Though I'd stick my head in and see how everyone is doing. After my vacation in Montreal at the end of August, my back went out and stayed out for the better part of two months. I was just cleared to start back running two weeks ago. What tiny bit of run fitness I did have went out the window, and I'm starting from square one. Bleh.

On a positive note, the inability to run translated into more time in the saddle. Got in some distance and hill rides with hubby and really improved my bike fitness. I also dropped 20lbs. Looking forward to losing around 25 more and really training hard over the winter in order to be ready for an Oly next season.

Hope you're all having a wonderful autumn! Smile

Trina, nice to hear from you.  I was wondering the other day what had happened to you.

Sorry to hear about the back, but congrats on the weight loss.  Like Brian said, you will notice a big difference when you start back up.  Keep at it!

I got my first ride in on the new Roubaix the other day.  The bike felt really good.  I thought it handled well and rode pretty smooth.  I especially liked the compact cranks.  With the compact set up, it pretty much eliminated any shifting on the front rings for me.

Now, I just have to work out all the little niches in the fit.  Little steps here and there.
