dhopman - 2010-11-16 8:54 AM I found some motivation last night to get on the trainer for an hour. My a$$ is sore today - I haven't been on my bike since July. WOW - that's a long break. I just did an easy spin while watching TV, nothing too crazy. It felt nice to sweat a little though.

I used my hot yellow Mavic shoes for the first time. I think the cleat needs adjusting on one of them. This was likely the first of many spin sessions to come over the next 6-7 months!

When do you start up the IM training plan?  We need to meet up for some rides.

Tim are you doing a full IM next year too?

Nope, not ready yet.  I'm looking to do a couple HIMs.  But, XTERRAs will remain my main focus.  Also, I'm planning on continuing the endurance MTB racing, possibly Death Ride, and Furnace Creek 508 (if I get accepted).

shmeeg - 2010-11-19 2:03 PM Lucky, wish I knew some peeps to train with from here!  Hey so question for youze.  I have to opportunity to pick up an '09 Felt F1 team bike w/ a few hundred miles on it for a ridonkulously low price.  If I do, I won't be able to get a new TT bike.  I'd like a roadie to commute to work after I move down to Camp Pendleton, but honestly I have never ridden a road bike.  I'm assuming I can do the bulk of my traininig on it w/ no ill effects on racing yes?

Question 2, do you go with a set of Cosmic Carbone SLs, DA 7850 clinchers, Hed Jet 6s or Planet X 50/50s?

For the roadie or TT bike?  I'm just running generic Mavic Ksyrium Elites on my Roubaix. I don't think I would run a 60mm on this bike.  I would like a set of 40s though for different conditions.

If for the TT, I'm a proponent of aluminum wheels with carbon flaring.  I just like the feel of braking on aluminum, especially in wet conditions.  You can probably find a good deal on the Carbones or SRAM on Ebay.

Anyone watch Ironman Arizona today?

Course records fell all over the place.  Rough, windy conditions.  Henning took a time penalty for drafting or the finish would of been neck-to-neck.

Men:
1. Timo Bracht
2. Rassmus Henning
3. Tom Lowe
4. Jordan Rapp
5. Jozsef Major

Women:
1. Chrissie Wellington **set new Ironman Women's World Record at 8:36**

First ride on the Cycleops today.  Thing is a lot harder than on the road!!!!  Trainer is very smooth and comfortable to ride.  Will really help with getting me more seat time on my bike / building up my core muscles.

For the roadie.  I'll keep the PT Hed wheels for the kestrel.  I really like the look of the Carbones, and I wouldn't need carbon specific brakes.  There's some SLs for about 1k on ebay

Haha, yeah it's not exactly the same feel as the road.  I find it hard to keep up high cadence on the trainer.

I held the cadence, but had to be in a lower gear than normal / speed on computer sucked.  Really enjoyed being on my bike versus and exercise bike.  Will make training a lot more fun.

I missed it...glad to see Jordan Rapp doing well again. I really like him - super smart classy dude. Why am I not surprised to hear about Chrissie's performance? I saw she rode in the last 6 miles on a flat too.

Cool.  I wonder why no one has tried to organize some sort of Xterra IM yet?  That would probably be a brutal day.

It would be BRUTAL!!! but I would sign up for it in a heart beat!!!!

Jay, how's those winter cycling programs? I'm going to get a trainer and a PM after xmas. I'm debating whether or not to replace computrainer classes with home training or supplement them with it.

I really like it so far. Like I said earlier, in the 5 weeks I've been doing it, I've already felt an increase in power. And training w/ the PT is freakin awesome. Great way to quantify the ride effort. If you're gonna get a PM, JorgeM's program is a great way to build strength for next season. I expect I will gain another 2-3 mph avg and see a 30 or so FTP wattage increase for the bike leg, which should get me close to the AG podium for smaller venue races.

It's amazing what you can accomplish when you follow directions....

For the past week, I've taken you guys advice and dialed back the pace on the runs.  Result has been very relaxed, easy 10 minute pace runs.  Today went for 40 minutes and could have kept going.  I'll stick with this for a while and trust the speed will come.

Then there's swimming.  Re-read some TI stuff, my notes from swim lessons, and big fuzzy dogs tips.  70% form, 30% fitness.  Do the drills and forget about grinding out laps.  So....hit the pool and worked on form for 45 minutes with some 25m lengths mixed in.  Amazing -- managaed to do 25m lengths with 23 strokes versus my normal 30+ strokes.  Couple that with the fact that I could actually feel my body balanced, started to get the rotation versus lifting (makes breathing one heXX of a lot easier), and I may actually be able to make some progress over the coming months.

Again, thanks for the tips and guidance!

Even an XTERRA at a HIM distance would be brutal, but much more realistic and doable.

Agreed.  He has quite the story.  Most people thought he would never be able to ride again after being hit on his bike.

It was a very emotional moment for him crossing the finish line.

Way to GO! This sounds like a HUGE breakthrough! Keep up the drills in the pool!

Nice job Curt!! I wish I could say my swimming has come along. But I haven't put in the time. Like an idiot, I've been avoiding the pool again!

I pulled something in my calf last week and took a week off of running too. I can't believe how much you lose in 1 frign' week. I went from running 7min miles for 8 miles to struggling to hold 8 min miles for 4 miles!! I'm hoping I can at least hold 7min/miles for the 4 mile turkey run tomorrow morning. I'm not very hopeful though.

Happy holidays everyone!  Nice run Brian, very speedy time!  I don't have pics yet, the bike is still at my friends house.  I had to order a new stem and seatpost because he didn't have my size so I should be able to snap something in a week or two when the parts get here.
