Wow, you guys sure know how to post... where did the last 50 pages come from?  Are there any summaries?

I've got a bunch of stuff to get done tonight,  but I'm going to try to get 40 minutes in on the treadmill.  Tomorrow, though, all training is on hold... because IT"S SKI SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, that's right, Loveland opens at 8:30 tomorrow morning, and you can bet I'm going to be there! mmmm, I'm not going to be able  to sleep tonight, it's going to feel like I'm a kid on Christmas eve.

A Basin is opening as well.  Oh what excitement.

Hey look TOPPAGE.

Since I already have 50+ miles this month and another 30ish to go by Sunday I might as well increase my goal to 80 miles from 65.

Cat, since you volunteered me to organize a challenge next month I have an idea.

Whats the idea???

Well the Marine Corps recently went to a 5X a week PT (physical training) program.  Though the Marine Corps only requires 30min per session.  My thought is that the challenge would be 5X a week.  The goal portion will be the time per session, any logable training.  If the person hits the goal time for that day a point is awarded.  Any partial times no points are awarded.  Team/member with most point wins challenge.  Not sure how many people may or may not be interested.

Definatley would work for a lot of people trying to be consistent... I guess its basically similar to you set your daily goal and if you hit it you miss it?

I like it... you would want to find a way to make it simple to track but thats new! The Army PT Challenge.. COOL!

Well I am not good with spreadsheets, but I figure that based on the Marine Corps calculations there are 20 possible days of PT.  Basically M-F in Nov.  It's a hit or miss, get the point or not.  Including the 10% bonus Dee likes to add in we will say 22 possible points.  Simple math says earned points/22 possible gives a percentage or even simpler max 22 points/person.  Largest total points by a team wins.

We can use the timeline of 1-8, 9-15, 16-22, and 23-30.  Keep it to 4 periods.  No more than 6 points allowed in a week.  Only 2 6-point weeks allowed during challenge.  Seems pretty simple to me.

So you have to committ to one workout a day 5 days a week? Minimum duration 30 minutes?

Sounds pretty simple to me...

Im assuming you only credit one workout a day even if someone does two? Some flexibility for the usual stuff... illness.. injury..vacation...

You could even make it simpler and just say 20 points total in the month if you didnt want to bother with time periods etc...

If teams arent the same size (possible as you dont always get even numbers) then maybe highest AVERAGE points per person for the team wins...

Sounds like a fun challenge... like an extension on the peach challenge this month too...

Teams could be somehow themed around the defense services.... even if they are kind of cheesy... Team Top Gun or Team Maverick anyone?

It could be one workout or maybe a total amount of time per day.  I average 1 hr per day, but I can't always get it in all at once.  For me I would say 1hr per day 5X per week.  I either get the hour or not.  I'm not saying everybody has to have a goal of 1hr per day.

As far as sickness/injury etc. I will say the same thing that the Marine Corps says "Case by case basis only."  But I will take all that into consideration.

The only problem I see is that I can log 1min and it counts as a workout.  If you have a goal time, then you are forced to actually commite yourself to your workout.

Now that I think about it I think I will keep it at a 30 min minimun requirment.  Not worry about personal times.  If the individual want's more PT than that then they can have at it.

If you want to get it up now go for it I say!

Youll just need to write a thread that says what the challenge is and how it will be measured and ask for signups

Then PM Dee and/or Beth and ask them to sticky it for you - I usually PM them both knowing that one is likely to log in at some point - with Beth away and Dee buisy a werk id say try them both!
