Typical lunch - chicken breast and veggies, grapes, and high fructose corn syrup made by Pepsi! I am throwing in some peanut M&M's as well for good measure! Yes, this sounds like a well balanced meal. I got invited out to lunch a few minutes ago. I didn't want to go, but I'm very bored here today so why not, right? |

ROBIN, a biopsy? hopefully nothing serious. let us know everything went ok. TOM&NEAL. dont think i cant take you BOTH. im just sayin..... NEAL. i was wondering. did your Doc recommend Active Release Therapy. just from what i read on your condition (yay. im geek who spends time reading about medical conditions) ART might prove to be helpful, not that im a medical professional or anything. i had ART for something unrelated and it was very helpful. stacieb Yes she did mention that. If the good ol fashioned regimen of stretching and rest doesn't seem to be doing the trick there are definitely other avenues to explore |

I could feel it doing some popping when I was running then, but it never really hurt. It hasn't hurt since then it has just sort of been stiff. I head out for my 5 mile run this afternoon, I live on a hill, so I start running down hill and I can feel a popping again at the top of my knee cap, but this time it hurts. I couldn't run very far, I turned around and walked home. I already have a doctor appt scheduled for Dec. 2, I doubt I could get in before that. I have a HM on January 17th this is no time to be injured.Right now I'm sitting in my recliner with it propped up and with ice on it. Ann, so sorry to read this. Ice and rest are your friends. Your description sounds so familiar. Keeping toes and fingers crossed for a quick recovery. FYI, when you get to the point of running again, avoid hills for a while. It sounds like you may have some knowledge of this. I live on hill, there are hills all around. ![]() I have patella-femoral syndrome, aka chrondomylacia or "runner's knee." It is caused by a number of factors, the main one being lack of strength in the quads and tight hamstrings. Being female doesn't help. There is what is referred to as a "Q angle" which is the angle of the femur at the knee joint. Because women have wider pelvises there is more of an angle which creates more stress on the joint. Initially rest and ice are your friend. Mine flares up a couple times a year....the most recent being last month which is why I couldn't do my HM last weekend. My recovery routine is as follows: Once pain free, easy biking for a week. When ready to run, go for the treadmill or trail for the first couple weeks. My biggest mistake is I don't strength train. That's why the "disdain" challenge was perfect. I've been doing my PT and really think it helps. That may be more than you want to know and hopefully you just had an off day. But if it is "runner's knee" then prevention is your best strategy. Strengthen the quads, stretch the hamstrings, and go slow when ramping up mileage. Good advice that I don't always follow but should. I was lifting weights. I LOVE lifting weights, but I got lazy and stopped. I was reading that orthotics and shoes can help, but I just got new of both and now this happens, grrr. I just got up to walk across the room a few minutes ago and I could feel it popping. This is just depressing and frustrating right now. I am going to TRY VERY HARD to be patient and rest. I'm sure all of you know how that goes sometimes. UGH. ANN. that just doesnt sound good. do your best to rest (we all have a good idea how that goes....) it IS hard and frustrating and depressing. [i remember well not being able to get from the couch to the powder w/out being in excurciating pain....] resting/healing well is probably the hardest thing we do, training-wise, as a triathlete. [yes. i do think its just as much a part of training as our sessions are....] a must do, moving forward. THE VILLAGE OF GHOUL is behind you, 100%! stacieb |

If I do it is generally plyometric type movements. I haven't lifted in awhile, and I really should. Do you think I'd be ok with swimming? I really do need time in the pool. I'm thinking about going this evening just so I don't go stir crazy around the house. Maybe I could get the husband to take the kids, too. |
