I'm in, the trigger has been pulled!  Just came off my first IM in FL in November, and what a great time it was.  A friend of mine signed up yesterday and egged me on, and glad he did.  Coming off a so-so marathon last week (great for 15 miles, not so great next 5 miles, poor last six miles) so I feel the running mileage is there.  Now to dust of the bike, get trainerroad fired up and find my swim goggles in the trunk of my car.  Will probably look to do Rev3 Knoxville as a mid plan race too.

I'm on Fink's plan too.  Trying the intermediate bike and run and advanced for the swim.  Did a 2500yd in 38min this morning, it sucks my best sport is the shortest event!  Keep plugging along, we get somewhat of a break this week.

I know, doesn't it....swimming is my strong suit too and the one thing I spend the least amount of time training for. Wish it contributed to more of the race.

You swimmers crack me up. At LV 2010 I did the breast stroke 1:34. Freestyle has been like quiting smoking for me. Try and fail, try and fail.

This past summer I told myself I could free style. For the past 17 weeks I've been doing the Sara McLarty Learn How to Swim program. I'm better, far from good, but I sink less then I used to.

Right now I'd say I'm half and half, hoping by race day to be more freestyle then breast stroke. Get in and get out in sub 1:30 and I'll be happy. A lot of effort for 4 minutes, but at 48, still getting better is fun and makes me happy.

Please don't get me started on my other "Limiters"

Got in the pool for the first time today since Ironman FL.  Not as tough as I thought it was going to be, but high heartrate and tough breathing for sure.  Surprisingly I don't think my form suffered at all.  I still feel like I was on top of the water and not dipping my legs too much.  Tomorrow I reintroduce myself to my bicycle and my garage.  Sunday I start hill training.  We have a closed park in town that has some good hills so safe and effective all at once.

Thinking of getting DonFink's book since I see a lot of people here following that plan.  I used the Matt Fitzgerald Triathlete plan last year.  It got me to the finish line, but time for a change.

Fitzgerald's training plan book is on sale for 7.98 at Amazon. It has tons of plans from sprint to IM. I used it for two HIMs last year and it was very helpful for me.  Thought I'd pass along the deal. http://www.amazon.com/Triathlete-Magazines-Essential-Week--Training/dp/B003IWYGZW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330001141&sr=8-1

In 2010 I used the free 20 week IM training plan from the BT website. I'm using it again this year.

I also don't put in enough time and "real efort" into swimming.  I have a swimming background, so it has been okay in the past.  Just don't feel like I can spare the time/energy away from the bike and the run.  Although it would be great to be faster, I will be happy with keeping my swim time from IM Louisville last year (1:00).

Can I borrow your swim time, much better than my time in 2010 of 1:31.  I realize that no matter how much time I spend trying to get better swimming, the improvements will be very very small.  If I spend the same time improving my bike and run, it will pay off in much larger dividends! ( I hope)

Got a nice hour long run in yesterday per Mr. Fink and his intermediate plan.  So nice to run outdoors again, seems like all I've done lately is treadmill work.  Was gonna ride the bike Saturday but the whole family is sick, so just tried to help out.  I guess now I'm a ticking time bomb when I will start hacking and feeling horrible.  Good thing for superhuman doses of VitC and zinc.

Well, time bomb went off Friday.  I went ahead and got a foul chest cold.  Cancelled Fri/Sat/Sun workouts so week 5 is pretty much in the toilet.  Hopefully will feel better by Tuesday to resume but everyone I know here has walking pneumonia, so we'll see.  Hope everyone else is having a great training weekend.

Sorry to hear that! A few days off this early won't hurt, just don't try and make it up all at once. I've been a bit nervous with some arch pain this past week. Doing Swim and Bike, but subbing Run with Elliptical. Seeing Podiatrist tomorrow. Other than that I've been sticking to the plan through 5 weeks. 25 to go!

Week 5, I remember that last year as I prepared for Louisville, ha in retrospect week 5 is like a warm up when you reach peak time.  Have fun on the journey everyone.

IMLOU  will be my first IM.  Last year I completed HIM @ Muncie.  MY training was just getting started when I developed a Inquinal hernia.  Surgery was yesterday and off training for the next 6 weeks.  I spent today trying to figure out how to adjust my training program.  My swim is my strongest leg and my run is the weakest.  Any advice

Hey y'all... looking for some advice on wheels for the course from anyone that has done this race or lives in the area. I was thinking about renting 808's... would that be the best combo? Also, has anyone rented from anyone other than Race Day Wheels or Ironman Wheel rental? Thanks... looking forward to August!
