Agree. If you have a disc use it. It will help you sail through parts of the course.

I'm looking at the TYR Torque swim skin.  My height (slightly under 5'10") puts me in a medium but my weight (155lbs) fits me for a small.  Any advice on which measurement to go by for sizing?

As far as hydration/nutrition - I use Accelerade (anyone still use this? Laughing) in a X-Lab torpedo mount and water in the Speedfil.  Rely on bars/gels for the majority of my calories.  For Austin 70.3 I ate about half a Cliff bar every 30 minutes on the bike which felt about right.  However didn't drink enough water and got dehydrated on the run.  I also took 2 metasalt tablets each hour of the bike which further dehydrated me.  Live and learn.

+1 on Accelerade. Moved to using Endurox as well for recovery. Get sponsorship discount and has been very GI friendly for me!

Don't know if this has been mentioned here yet....but there is a Dave Matthews concert at the woodlands pavilion (which I think is right next to the hotel/start-finish/etc) the night before the race......Friday, 5/17.

Hopefully that doesn't disrupt sleep and prep the night before.

Dave was there last year too.  If you are driving the course or walking in the area you'll notice, otherwise, it'll be like he's not there.

And if you're out walking the night before, you're crazy man.  Take a load off and relax, listen to some DMB on an ipod.

HA....roger that! didn't plan on it, but I've done some stupid things before. I won't add that to the list.

Wasn't sure how disruptive it would be but glad to know that it shouldn't be an issue.

I heard from many that DMB was disruptive and could be heard if staying in the Marriott across the street. Concert goes until 11 I believe. I heard complaints and non-issues from folks in the area. Probably dependent of where your room is in the hotel.

I think thats exactly it. We stayed at the Marriott last year, but our room was facing the canal, and I never heard a note. Maybe if we were on the side fo the hotel facing the pavilion it would have been more noticeable

I haven't even booked yet so I don't have to worry about DMB, unless I can snag a cancellation.  Then again, I might just stay up the road a bit.  Race morning, all the parking garages where $5 flat rate, just park and walk with the rest of the crazies.

About the same.  I do better with solid food.  One Clif bar is 230 calories.  If I can get about 300-400 calories per hour on the bike I'll be happy.  Probably stick to one Clif bar per hour and then supplement the remaining through liquid calories (Accelerade, and whatever's on the course).  As far as hydration, about 30-40oz of water per hour.  That means drinking through my entire Speedfil in an hour.

I've practiced the nutrition side during my long rides but need to get better about drinking more water.  As been mentioned on here before, hard to simulate exact race day conditions.

For the run, I'll probably stick to gels, coke (never tried), water, and prayer Innocent.

I am 6 foot and race weight is usually 155. I wear a medium in theTYR torque and its snug. Good swim skin that has survived over 3 seasons and several people borrowing it.

Some good nutrition options i recommend outside of gels and sports drink are honey stinger waffles and power bites (perfect size to pop in for solid food and they are some good protein content). For drinks and gels I use EFS products and carbo pro on the bike and perform/coke and powerbar kona punch gels on the run.

honestly I don't mind the infinit, I just need to mix more water in this year.. I was well hydrated in FL (2 stops) and did well on the run living off of the course with water / coke / perform.. I just think the water will help keep the stomach calm (along with a tums or two)..

Nice out today for sure. Finally starting to warm up in south Texas. Got in an hour and ten minute OWS this morning. Water was 54 degrees and felt pretty good after the first couple hundred meters.

Pretty windy in North Texas today, but I got in 95 miles and a 4 mile run off the bike. Gotta work on my nutrition more. Felt emtpy on the run and when I put the math to the calorie intake on the bike it was only about 200 cal an hour. That wont cut it on race day

I am going to be cancelling a reservation for Friday and Saturday at Moody Gardens race weekend.  I don't know if it will work, but I will notify the first person who PM's me that they would like the room of when I will call and cancel it.  Like I said I'm not sure if it will work because they may have overbooked but it couldn't hurt someone to try or me to offer the attempt.

Yep.  First day w/o arm warmers and gloves!!  We got in most of the course minus the parts in the city.  Love the course.  Could ride it every weekend.

Wrong race thread. Moody Gardens is 90 miles from The Woodlands. ;-)

regarding nutrition, remember, the course has bananas, pretzels, etc because they are proven oldies but goodies.  do not be afraid to use simple nutrition like a banana as your stomach is likely to handle it quite well - and it's out there being handed to you rather than having to pack everything and anything.  pack what you must have, including salt tablets, but don't feel like you have to pack your entire nutrition for the day on your bike and in your pockets
