Bevie - 2013-04-08 3:39 AM Got in 46 miles Friday afternoon on some windy/hilly terrain here on the bike in 2:30 in zone 2. Felt good to go that long. Also Sunday afternoon I got in a hair under 16 miles in two hours all in zone 2. Felt awesome to run in shorts and a tee shirt outside!

Looks like you folks up north might be getting one last snow storm Thursday now. Hope it stays up there and we don't get any around me!

Not a problem - it's better to train in these crappy conditions and be used to it.  BRING IT ON!

X2!

bswcpa - 2013-04-02 2:45 PM Thanks, Suzy. I'd thought body marking would be fun but the spots were all filled. I went ahead and signed up for gear bag - 7:30 to 11:00, women's change tent 1:30-6:00 and finish line catcher from 8:00-11:45. Yippee!!

Thank you for Volunteering. It is a long hard day for the volunteers. It is appreciated.   Finish Line Catcher will be fun especially at the times you are working.  Enjoy and hope to see you out there.

I'm officially signed up as a volunteer!!! The catcher spots where full but I'll be there cheering you on at one of the bike water/aid stations then I"m spending several hours working in the med tent. My national and state paramedic got me a nice spot. I hope to see everyone on the bike but hope not to see you all in the med tent!!!

On the training front all is well. I did a 30 mile ride on Monday which was the only nice day all of last week. Got a few runs in and a few swims in as well. My kid was sick two of the days so couple that with the tri training, weight lifting, and working I'm happy with the way my week has went.

Sounds like everyone is coming along nicely in training.

50.5 mile ride Saturday in that horrible wind that never seems to die down.  I went out with it being 20mph with 28 mph gusts.  Just a hair under three hours all in zone 2.  Didn't get as many miles as I wanted but the last 15 miles were tough because it was all headwind for the most part and it is hard for me to remind myself to stay in zone 2 sometimes.  It will all pay off in the end though.

Yesterday was a 15.4 mile 2 hour run all in Zone 2 as well.  My foot has had a feeling in it like I'm walking on a marble right around the big toe/joint/ball area.  It comes and goes with rest.  Thinking I may skip my SS workout Tuesday and just jog a few miles and call it good to see if that helps.

Hope everyone's training is going good.  Had a good swim this morning and plan on a hard one hour ride in a couple hours time.  Cheers!

Planning ahead and I am l looking for ideas and suggestions of what to include in my bike and run Special Needs bags.  I have heard a lot of the normal suggestions of extra, gels, food, advil, etc.

Has anybody put anything in there out of the norm that ended up being really helpful?

Wisconsin weather is something else - you can have a hot, hot day like 2005 or a miserable cold, rainy mist all day like 2006 (or was it vice versa?), or have ideal but slightly windy conditions as in 2007 and 2009.

Be prepared for just about anything, really, but the biggest things are below:

Bike special needs:
1). Either new water bottles with your formula (you can freeze them over night and by the time you get to the special needs after loop one, they should be ready to go) mix (Hammer, InfinIT, Gatorade??).  OR, have the dry formula in ziplock baggies and grab.  You can put the used water bottles back in the special needs bag.

 2). Extra gels.

3). Extra bike tubes and CO2 cartridges.

4). A little happy note to remind yourself that you are that much closer, or whatever note you or your family and/or friends want to put in (something small, obviously that won't take much time to read).

 5). Extra bag balm.

 6). Extra salt tablets.

 7). Aspirin or ibuprofen?

8). Someone put in a McDonald's Big Mac in a lunchbag, or potato.

Nutrition is a big key for the bike.

Run special needs:
 1). Extra socks.

 2). Change of shoes.

 3). Extra gels.

4). New water bottle with formula.

 5). Extra salt tablets.

6). Depending on your speed, time, conditions, have a light windbreaker, or rain jacket, or fresh UnderArmour.

7). Light stick, or glow-in-the-dark stick-ons, or headlight (if it's getting dark).

8). A little note for inspiration.

 9). Aspirin or ibuprofen?

10). Vaseline or body-glide.

These are just my suggestions - I'm sure others will add or remove suggestions.

I actually had to move it to Sunday late AM after church. I decided to volunteer at the half Mary in Cottage Grove Saturday.

Training is going... I know its early but I am far from feeling invincible. Had a couple medical setbacks and just looking for a finish now.

So far so good on the training front for me. I'm starting to ramp up now. I got a good 11 mile run in yesterday evening but it was brutally windy. I have not experienced anything that bad in a very long time. It really sucked while I was doing it but I'm sure it will pay dividends for the future.

If I would've caught this, I wouldn't have volunteered to help out at a race near Milwaukee.

So far.... so good I hope. Having some problems getting in the shorter efforts, but long bike is up to 65 miles, swim 1:15, and 15 mile run. The weekend calls for 75 bike, another 1:15 swim, and 17 run. Time will tell if it gets done, sure hope so. Enjoy spring gang!

Rest and test week for me.  Took the last two days off due to fighting off the onsets of a cold and my foot problem needed a rest.  Back at it later tonight with a run and a make up swim for not getting one in yesterday.  Might also do a trainer ride as well depending on what the weather is going to do tomorrow.  We have gotten tons of rain here the last few days but hopefully after today it goes away for a while.

Have a half marathon on the 27th down in Champaigne, IL.  Looking to set a PR there and have a good time.  Planning on wearing blue and gold for Boston!

I am a little worried about my training.  It started off great but these past 2 weeks have been brutal with the weather and traveling for work.  The swimming 3x a week for 60 min.  (swimming is the area strongest in)  Running & Biking has been hit or miss.  I know once this weather turns around I will be out all the time.  This is the first time I haven’t had full confidence, and I am pushing to get it back, so glad everyone else is doing great!  I know I will get back to where I need to be in the next week.

Don't worry about it and do what you can - be consistent even if lower miles.  At least you are accomplishing something instead of nothing.

Finished out the week with a 2 hour ride on the trainer last night and totally had nothing. Not my best workout but redeemed myself today with an easy paced 1:45 run getting in 10 miles. Taking tomorrow off, I think it's been about 3 weeks since I've had one. Need some rest and recovery and a few beers!

Didn't get much accomplished last week due to work and developing a bad head cold later on in the week.  Missed three days of doing nothing.  Good thing it was my rest week.  I was back at it today with an early morning 3k yard swim.  Going on a 20+mile group ride tonight and will probably take the kid for a 4 mile run today as well.  Cold is getting a lot better and I just told myself to rest because I have my first Half marathon race this coming weekend that I want to do great at.  Otherwise it's time to get re-focused.  I'll let you all know how the HM goes!

Took the bike off the trainer yesterday.....and now I look outside at 4 inches of snow falling.

But, on the bright side, this weekend shows highs in the 70s and I am doing the 100 mile Minnesota Ironman Bike ride this Sunday and its going to be great!  Anybody else doing that event?

I got pizzed yesterday due to some family scheduling interruptus, so I wasn't able to do a workout.  Bummed me out, so tonight I'm making the effort to do what I wanted to do - SCHWIM and then run.  Vengeance and a little extra rest day should have made me more refreshed, and the toxic negative energy should disappear.

Have a great night, y'all.
