Gaary,
I agree with you once you can do 10 miles you probably can do 26.2 but I learned the hard way that you have to have proper race nutrition to replace your electrolytes & water at the correct rate while running a marathon. When I nonchalantly prepared for my marathon the farthest I ran was 12miles. This was not enough because when I ran the actual race I bonked at 19miles had to walk for a short while at 24miles then struggled into the finish line. I would get in some runs out past 19 miles to figure out how your body reacts when it runs out of its stored fuel.

Yup, I'm on board with the cycling helps running but it doesn't work so well the other way.  You'd be amazed at the number of marathoners who swear by cross training on a bike... or who come to spin classes for cross training.

I was late to the "what's on tap for this weekend" party... but here's mine:  I completed my first tri... this is exciting and wonderful, but even moreso when you know that Michellie Jones ran with me for the last 5 minutes of my very first triathlon .

Good Job on the race Mila. I had to google M. Jones to figure out who she was, how did you manage to be running with her.

I couldn't imagine only doing 12 mile long run for a marathon. On my first one 16 was my longest and I had a horrible run. Now I like to get a couple 20's in before but I will settle for anything over 18.

What... you don't think I'm that fast????

After Michellie finished the race... with a 12 minute lead, I might add (she finished the run before the 2nd place finisher even started her run), she actually went back out and ran the course several times to motivate the everyone.  As I was coming towards the finish she came up and started running beside me, told me I was almost there and giving me some running tips to keep momentum up the big hill to the finish.  Since you're not familiar with MJ let me just say that she likes pink at least as much as I do... so we had some important things to disucss!  She ran with me all the way to the top of the finish chute.  She was incredibly down to earth and accessible.  It would be great if all athletes of her caliber were so.

Oh my gosh...that's freakin AWESOME!  How cool!  Congrats on being a triathlete and I'm JEALOUS of your one on one time.  ESPECIALLY if you discussed the importance of my favorite color!!!

Heh... yeah, it was pretty cool.  She was so sassed out in pink and I covet her pink bike computer.  I have a picture with her in my blog and in my album and she signed my bib #.  I'm going to frame the picture, number and medal all together as a momento from my first tri... that will be very hard to top!

Thanks for the congrats .

He's back.....

First off, I would like to complain about the inability to post these messages on BT if you use Safari for Apple. I have to post from the office. Ok, I am done venting.

Given dad died from a cardiac arrest, I went to the Emory Hospital for a new type of CT scan that allows them to determine the amount of plaque in your arteries around your heart. It only cost $125 so I recommend it to all Atlantans. Unlike my dad, on a scale of 0-401+ (401+ being get in the hospital now) I had a zero. Yeah!

Any Georgians doing the Tri the Park in Flovilla this weekend? I will be there but I am not going after that to Calloway (original plan). Look for me with the JID over my heart in memory of Dad (however it will not be written in Pink for you pink fans).

Finally, I decided to degrease and lube the chain yesterday. It was awfully squeeky, so I figured I would give it a shot. It really helped. Using the Pedro chain cleaner kit was pretty easy and I did 2 coats of White Lightening to relube. Should make for better riding. I also picked up some better Tri shoes at Performance bikes while I was at it and broke them in last night on the trainer.

I hope everyone else is doing ok.  Look for me in Floooovilla.

Jon... I'm planning to be at Indian Springs to jockstrap many friends who are racing.  I'll look for you.  Shame about the pink, though .  I think it's a wonderful tribute to your dad that you'll be wearing his initials proudly on race day.  I wish you a fast and safe race.

I bought new goggles yesterday so I think I will go give them a little try out during lunch.

Everyone-

We are getting smoked by a couple of other groups that appears to be in constant chat mode.  We need to bump up the conversations, back slaps, etc.

Good luck everyone for the weekend.. I was off volunteering as a camp training for a bunch of suger'ed up 11-12 yr olds this week and didn't get any actual workouts in.. lots of fun stuff that tired me out though..  Up at 4am to meet the running group for a 10 miler is all for me this weekend.

Yeah, I finished alive.  It was a very organized event and apparently a good course as my time would indicate I loved staying on it as long as possible.  I didn't write down all of the splits (they had the results asap) but I did 1:21:57 overall.  Bike still wasn't fast and I bonked on the run (in addition to busting on a rock that was on the dirt trail, full yard sale with scraped knee).  I will give a better overview as the full results are posted.

JID was fully represented on my chest and I think he would have been proud.
