Mo,  help me understand the columns Q1(Sundays) / Q2 / Q3 / Q4.  I'm not exactly following the plan.  It looks as if you listed the workouts that you want to accomplish during the week and are flexible as to when they get done.  is that right?

I like to see the speed work in there.  you're going to smoke the Phuket.

Q's for quality workout. Well it is very flexible because of my job. We dont work on specific hours. Sometimes work starts at 11 and finish by 5. On anathor day it starts 9am and finish 2am the day after. And there's no way knowing what's gonna happen sometimes until the day itself. So my plan has to be flexible.

The plan's pretty much a copy of the plan i've used twice last year except now there's a brick session which means my sunday's gone. So Q3 is now my long run day, which can be any day that i have more free time.

Hah, yeah phuket is quite an expensive place. Take it as a holiday Ken! I'll join you if you come down here, at least as spectator

Had a nice treadmill run and some strength this am. Supposed to swim if the college does not close due to bad weather (finally, some nice snow!!! yay!)

Bit the bullet and bought a Garmin 305 yesterday. Can't WAIT for it to get here. I wanted the HRM and then the GPS thing was too cool to pass up, with trail running that I like to do in spring and summer and fall, and then the possibiilty of geocaching with the boys this spring! Found it new on ebay- not too bad a price.

I still need to buy a wetsuit and real pedal clips and bike shoes-- I still ride in running shoes, which I know is not how to get real power....

try on both the suit and the cycling shoes.  The fit of both of those items is too critical to not have it right.  I think half the fun of triathlon is getting the new gear.  Isn't it fun ??!!!

Howdy All,

OK... the job thing is taxing me again; the drive to get here in the morning is approximately an hour-and-a-half (only 22 miles by the way) and close to two hours in the evening. I have interviewed for a position in a medical group only three miles from my house, I am sure I nailed it, only waiting for the offer.

Purchased my bike this past Saturday. It is a Scott Speedster S60. The Triathlon Lab in Redondo Beach had them come in the Thursday prior and it was priced at $629.99. Since I was to be the first, he knocked it down to $599.99 and gave me 20% off on the helmet and 15% off anything else in the store. NICE! Drove out with the new bike, fitted especially for me as well, and a helmet. I should have purchased the DeSoto Tri Suit, but I did not, now I am sulking. I need a good Tri Suit. Have the ORCO Evo 2006 Wetsuit, never worn yet. Therefore, my final purchases will be the Tri Suit and the bike shoes.

Got off the treadmill and made it onto the road on Saturday. I have not run the roads in close to a year and I was impressed that I made it with only stopping twice (for red lights!). Wanted to break in the bike on Sunday, but it rained.

Still not losing the weight however. I am trimming down as my jammers and bike shorts are getting loose, or worn out (ha, ha) as well as my suits are fitting nicer. I refuse to race as a Clydesdale, so if I need to starve or go on liquid meals, I will be at 190 by April 20.

Well, I think that updates all of you on me. Now I am going to look over your blogs and see how everyone is getting closer to their goals.

Take care,

Hey, congrats on the bike, John!  Glad you're getting outside too.  Nice work.  Sorry the job stuff is still a stressor.  Darn jobs anyway....

Speaking of which, I must be off!

How'd everyone's day go?  Mine was good, except my ears acted up during my swim.  Where'd I put those earplugs?

Don't know what to do about tomorrow and Sat.  The pool is going to be closed from noon tomorrow through Sunday for a meet.  Grr.  So I'll have to do my Sat swim tomorrow morning.  Probly should have done my long bike today, cause I'm looking at having to do all three tomorrow but I can't wear myself out too much because I have to climb a mountain with all the twenty-year-olds in avalanche class on Saturday!  Hmm, guess I'll figure it out .

Have a good Friday, everyone!

I'm planning for a run after work and possibly a 30 minute jaunt on the Elliptical sometime during the work day.

I hope you guys all have a great day!

Terry

Sandi- just PMed you the Cuban Black Bean soup- I've never made this particular recipe before- and as you will see, I'm unlikely to be eating it for tonight's dinner-- seeing that it's quite a process! But it looks so good................I did start it, then at least I will have it for the weekend.

amy, there are only 24 hours in my day.  How many in yours ??    your are one ambitious chic'.  I dig it.

Have a fun weekend everyone.  I'm recovering from what I think was a 24 hour bug yesterday.  (I hope anyway)  Watching the bud shoot out (NASCAR) on tv tonight.  For those that might watch, root for Kasey kane (#9) or Carl Edwards (#99).  boo Dale Jr.

Well, peeps, it's a NEW week!! What do you have planned for this week?

Today I am gloriously OFF ( I guess when you you really train hard you don' t mind the off days so much Embarassed) I will go do a few cruiser runs at the mountain this afternoon, but I bagged the harded ski I had planned for the crack of dawn.

Saw a cool funky singer last night- Amanda Homi- it WAS very cool, as my friends anticipated. Even purchased her CD! And I think there's no need to say how good a burger and glass of red wine taste after a hard week of training!

Yes, it's a new week.  Well, in case you guys haven't noticed yet, I'm  ADD.  That is the single greatest challenge in my life.  I'm finally on meds that help a little and working on getting my life in order, but still have times like this weekend, when despite my best intentions I just can't get my brain to get myself to do what I want to do.  Oh well.  I did get some white chile made and... a load of laundry done and the dog washed... and a whole lot of going in circles and second-guessing myself and forymgetting things I had planned and doing things I remembered but remembered wrong.  And oversleeping and staying up late to compensate and... well, you get the picture.  Soooooo, it's a new week.  Off to the gym!  I hope everyone had a good weekend and I hope Ken's feeling better!

Hey Guys and Gals!

Yep, it's a new week and back to some consistent workouts for me.

Sorry to bail on you guys this weekend.  It was a BUSY one!  Friday... work got in my way of a workout   I left the office at about 7:00, went home, and took a bath.  Saturday, we made a day trip to take a closer look at a house we are thinking of buying (about 1 and a half hours away).  No workout.  Sunday, I knew if I didn't get in a bike ride first thing that it wouldn't happen, so I squeezed in 30 minutes then headed to church and had nursery duty.  Nursery duty was interesting... me, one other "adult" (17 year old girl) and 17 one and a half year olds.  WHEW!!!  I was worn out after that.  Sunday afternoon after a Lean Cuisine for lunch, I headed out to help a friend pack up and move some stuff out of an office where she and a friend had run a small business that is now bankrupt.  It was very sad, but I was glad to help.  And that was my weekend.

Today, back in the office and am going for a rather long workout in the early afternoon.

Sandi, I'm sorry to hear you are wrestling with ADD.  I don't know much about it, but sounds like you are making progess on working through it and figuring out how best to work around it.  Thanks for opening up to share that with us!

Amy, how far away are the slopes?  I bet that is a GREAT workout and it sounds like something you really enjoy?  Did you grow up skiing?  How old were you when you started?

Ken, sorry to hear you have been under the weather!  Sounds like you have recovered.  Sorry about the race results from Saturday!  It's a good start for him though in a new organization.

John, Mike, and Mo... Missing you guys!

Happy Monday everyone!

Terry

and, another question for the crowd...

Heart rate, heart rate- who's got one?  Now that I am a Big Shot Garmin Owner, guess I need to determine some zones for myself, huh? What's the best way? One of the tests I looked at on BT made me shudder-- I think it was the line "this is going to hurt; there's no other way" that made me shiver- I pictured myself leaving my teeth on the treadmill. The ground here is just too slippery right now to go out and really push my speed. And the bike part is on a trainer for sure. So who wants to step up to the plate and baby talk me through this one? Looking for a knowledgable cheerleader....anyone? Bueller?

First... relax!  The week will be over before you know it.  Second, I'm sure Ken has some good advice   I would be tempted to squeeze in an extra upper body workout.

Terry- We live 10 minutes from the mountain. This very much a "ski town" - all of our friends and all of their kids ski. That's what you do here.  lol.  I do really enjoy it- but I'm not very good.  Passable, but not great.  My husband has been skiing his whole life, me just since college, pretty much.  My kids will be a far better skier than I am- my 8 year old already is! He can ski the whole mountain- black diamond trails, everything!  He LOVES IT. Lives to ski.    It can be a great workout, but I prefer the cruising to the bumps/steep stuff, which is clearly more of a workout.

Good morning, all.  Amy that's a bummer about the pool, but I agree w Terry - it'll be over in no time.  Besides, you've been working really hard and a little break in one area may only improve your performance.  When is your A race?  I imagine you've got lots of time, and I get the feeling you'll be ready to be competetive ".

Terry, how are you doing?  Is Ken still alive?  And John, where are you??? Mike?????

Take the time you would have been swimming and add another run, bike, or strength session.  don't stress about it one bit !!!!  you might feel a little heavy the next time in the pool, but after your second swim upon returning to the water, you will have your feel back.
