Day 800, 2 miles
Day 801 and 802, 100 miles, until I get home and uploaded my data not sure how much each day.
The skydive was amazing, went out at 14000 feet and opened the chute at 5000 feet. It was a hot humid day to start the run so I dialed my pace back early to save myself until the evening. The sun went down and my pace went up, I really got into a groove for several hours and then the thick fog set in around midnight. A lot of the run was though sugar cane fields with uneven footing so it was hard to see even with my headlamp. I ran when the surface was good and slowed down when it was not. When the sun came up, a beautiful sunrise, I was off again to get done before it got too hot. I managed to finish the race in 22 hours and 36 minutes and with the conditions I was very happy with that. Not sure what the high was Saturday but it would not surprise me if it got in the 90's.
I am at least 2nd in the race and maybe first, yes I may have won the race. The first place finisher has some timing discrepancies, I am being politically correct right now. It was an 8 mile loop overall but one side was 4.3 miles and the other was 2.7 miles that you had to do the complete loop 12.5 times. Now I passed this guy twice, yes lapped him twice and he never passed me once. I am glad it was electronically time so I am sure they will get it sorted out. You went across the timing mat after the 4.7 mile loop and also after the 2.7 mile loop and his timing shows he did several 4.7 miles loop under 16 minutes, I do not think so.
It is what it is though and I am happy with my finish and know I won the race whether I get it recognized for it or not. All the 100 mile runner know it to along with many of the shorter distance runners know it as well and we're very upset about it. I will do this race again in the future too, it was great. I saw 3 gators while running and 3 snakes, one was a water moccasin and the other two I was not sure of but I gave them their space. |
